Today, ASD President Guillaume Faury and Secretary General Jan Pie published an op-ed in Euractiv titled “Europe must prepare to defend itself before it is too late”, calling for urgent action to enhance Europe's defence capabilities in the wake of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and of the vulnerabilities caused by decades of underinvestment in its defence resources. They call for increased investment, prioritisation of European-made defence products, and bold action from the EU and Member States to ensure strategic autonomy and security. "Europe must spend more, collaborate more, and ensure that its defence sector can meet the demands of the dangerous world we face," they write. • A key to increased productivity and attractiveness The ability to take on various tasks across different production roles boosts efficiency and optimizes resource utilization. Earlier this year, we implemented a key provision in our Industrial Agreement. Currently, around 40 workers benefit from the arrangement, which increases flexibility by enabling a broader distribution of roles among skilled workers. As we continue to expand with several new production facilities, the aim is to extend this program to even more skilled workers. Bredo Larsen, HR Director at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, is clear about why this vertical integration is important: "This arrangement enables skilled workers to take on more responsibility and serve as an important link between operators and supervisors." For KONGSBERG and other companies in Norwegian industry, this arrangement could be a pivotal catalyst in meeting the future demands for efficiency, technological innovation, and professional development. 🔗 Learn more here: https://brnw.ch/21wO8EK #SkilledWorker #JoinUs #DefenceIndustry

  • 🤝 Partnership elevates NASAMS with new radar In collaboration with Raytheon, we will co-develop a new radar system designed to enhance the capabilities of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) against a wide range of air threats. The next-generation sensor will be based on Raytheon's existing family of GhostEye radars with Gallium Nitride AESA technology. The radar constitutes a significant improvement of the overall performance, including longer range. This initiative marks the first project developed under the NASAMS Capabilities Collaborative Arrangement, signed in 2023 by the Norwegian Ministry of Defence – Forsvarsdepartementet, KONGSBERG, and Raytheon. “Norway has decided to build their future Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) with the NASAMS architecture as the backbone. The development of the next-gen radar is a natural step for Norway as the lead nation and will address requirements to meet the mobility aspects for a flexible and agile system,” says Hans Christian Hagen, Vice President Business Development for Air & Coastal Defence at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. 🔗 Click here to read the full article: https://brnw.ch/21wO5rf #NASAMS #AirDefence #Collaboration

  • Saving the rainforests with free satellite data 🛰️🌍 The world's rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate: Equivalent to one football pitch every 6 seconds. Until recently, the problem has been that few have access to accurate information regarding exactly where they are being cut down and burned. Today, KSAT – Kongsberg Satellite Services continuously downloads high resolution satellite data images from the many rainforests worldwide, making these images available for free. "We are now in our fourth year of the project and have over 25,000 registered users in nearly 160 different countries. The satellite program is groundbreaking. The satellite images that KSAT delivers together with partners Airbus and Planet, cover rainforest in as many as 97 countries. We download several gigabytes of high-resolution images every month, stitch them together into a mosaic and make the data ready for analysis - completely free of charge thanks to funding from the Norwegian authorities," explains Charlotte Bishop, Senior Project Manager at KSAT. By monitoring the forest over time, we can see development trends and map both legal and illegal activities that affect the vulnerable vegetation in various ways. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://brnw.ch/21wIiHz #KSAT #SatelliteData #ProtectingPeopleandPlanet

  • Advancing space technology with Ariane 6 🚀 For more than 33 years, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has been a proud partner in the Ariane rocket programme, contributing to over 100 successful launches and delivering more than 135,000 kg of precision mechanisms. Our involvement in the Ariane programme continues to evolve with the introduction of the Ariane 6, Europe’s latest rocket designed for versatile missions from low-Earth orbit to deep space. As part of this next chapter, we are responsible for the series production of Optical Safety Barriers (OSB-boxes) for Ariane 6. These critical systems ensure the safe and precise operation of the rocket by managing laser light during crucial moments, such as booster separation. "We have a long-term contract to deliver for Ariane 6 over the next two to three decades. "However, rocket technology evolves rapidly, and requirements can shift yearly. This means we must constantly adapt and stay ahead of the technological curve," says Heidi Brovoll Andersen, Senior Project Engineer. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://brnw.ch/21wNSBz #Ariane6 #SpaceExploration #Innovation
