British High Commission and British Council Launch ‘Khilo aur Barho’ to Transform Education for Out-of-School Children" 💥 Funded by the British High Commission, Pakistan, and delivered by the British Council, the service delivery component of Girls and Out of School Children’s Action for Learning (GOAL) programme, Khilo aur Barho will see children receive support with their Urdu, Maths and English. This support will focus on their ability, rather than their age, helping them to catch-up on these subjects quicker. Children from all across Pakistan will be supported, but with a particular focus on South Punjab and merged districts in KPK. At least 10% of participants will be children with disabilities, and 20% will come from marginalised groups Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner said: “Pakistan is facing an education emergency, with 26.2 million children out of school. This targeted support will make sure some of the most vulnerable children in the country don’t fall behind. Every child deserves access to equitable and quality education. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, many children have never attended school or have had to drop out due to various reasons. Our programmes focus on equitable participation and outcomes for girls and boys most affected by inequality and discrimination. We have supported 160 Accelerated Learning Centres since 2019 for girls and boys in Pakistan, ensuring they receive the education they deserve. Upon their graduation, they can either be mainstreamed to government schools or receive further vocational education to be financially sustainable, so as to break the cycle of child forced marriage. As International Literacy Day approaches, we envision a world where more children have access to equitable and quality education services. In the heart of Central America, the Protective Learning and Nurturing Environments for Girls Education (PLANE) project is making a significant impact on education. From 2019 to 2023, the UNICEF and Canada initiative supported national education systems in #ElSalvador, #Guatemala and #Honduras.   The project aimed to address the individual barriers faced by girls, in addition to ensuring young and adolescent girls who are out of school, at risk of dropping out, internally displaced or returned migrants have access to education opportunities.   By the end of 2023 in Honduras, the project had established 117 safe learning spaces and a tutorial learning system, providing around 82,000 adolescents with access to flexible education delivery with blended and distance learning methods.   These students also received psychosocial and psycho-educational support, life and job placement skills, as well as vocational training and technical skills tailored to labour market needs.   Additionally, more than 8,400 teachers and facilitators were trained in psycho-emotional care and mental health to improve the well-being of children and adolescents in formal and non-formal education.   Through the PLANE project, education transformed lives and became a source of resilience for vulnerable children and adolescents, especially girls, ensuring that every child had an opportunity to learn and grow, even in the most challenging circumstances.   📸 © UNICEF/UNI484327/Flores   #EducationForAll | #GlobalEducation | #GenderEquality | #InternationalEducation | #InternationalDevelopment | #BackToSchool

123 G0! Project implemented by Uganda Society for Disabled Children (USDC). For USDC, the 123 Go project shows how girls and boys can achieve effective learning outcomes that are equitable & relevant for their communities at their nearest primary schools. USDC did this by supporting teachers to identify learning needs and assessing progress of 60 learners with disabilities over 3 years, with the participation of their parents, teachers and health professionals. This empowered teachers to use friendly teaching-learning methods, thus supporting learners for quality learning outcomes not biased only to literacy and numeracy competences. 80% of the learners identified with varying disabilities were rated equal to their peers within same age range of 9-10 years, on literacy and numeracy skills by the third year. Additional skills continuously assessed were communication and socialization skills. On October 25, 2024, Tingathe participated in the Adult Education (ALE) Thematic Group workshop at the Falls Community Development Training Centre (Rehabilitation Centre) in Lilongwe, organized by DVV International. This workshop aimed to evaluate the progress and performance of individual teams within the thematic group, with updates on various tasks assigned during previous meetings. During the meeting, the Catholic University of Malawi, which provides Adult Education training in Malawi, shared findings on its Adult Education Programme, highlighting both successes and areas for improvement. Their research will guide ongoing curriculum development to better meet the needs of adult learners across the country. Adult literacy education is important as it empowers people with the skills needed to participate more fully in the economy, improve their personal and family lives, and engage in their communities. Tingathe recognizes this and ensures that adult literacy is accessible to vulnerable groups in peri-urban communities in Lilongwe. Through programs such as the Tingathe Vocational Training Program, we equip people with vocational and foundational literacy and numeracy skills, aiming to uplift their socio-economic standing and promote self-reliance. Our courses are tailored to build capacity among target groups such as women business owners and youth to become changemakers in their communities.
