On any given day, over 400,000 children are in the U.S. foster care system. A number of environmental and societal factors play a role in these kids being separated from their families, and while children of all races can be found in this system, a disproportionate number of these children are Black. Studies have shown that Black children in foster care experience disparate treatment and significantly higher risk for negative outcomes later in life compared to other children in the system. There’s still time ⏰ to make a difference for San Diego Gives! Currently, 41 boys in San Diego County are waiting for an advocate to be there for them, with more entering foster care daily. We hope you will consider making a generous gift✨ to support boys in foster care who need a CASA during challenging times in their childhood 👉https://buff.ly/3YYtpQi Now more than ever, children who have experienced abuse or neglect need a caring Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) by their side. Often, children in foster care, particularly young boys, do not have a reliable male figure or positive male role model in their lives. Today, the number of male CASA volunteers is disproportionately low; in fact, in San Diego County alone, approximately 50% of children in foster care are boys, but only 15% of advocates are male. Nonetheless, it’s essential to provide young boys in foster care the opportunity to lean on and learn from stable male role models. #sandiegogives #makeadifference #courtappointedspecialadvocate #CASAschangelives #supportboysinfostercare #malerolemodels #childadvocacy #courtadvocacy #voicesforchildren #childwelfare #sandiegocounty #supportyouthinfostercare #community #nonprofit #giveback #helpothers

Joseph felt like he belonged, cruising on his bike with the other kids in the neighborhood without a care in the world. Bicycles (and helmets and locks!) are one of the many things Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation funds for children and youth in foster care. CoSA volunteers do the work no one else is willing to do. Communities are dependent on volunteers to ensure everyone is safe and living a healthy lifestyle. Q: Why do you volunteer with CoSA? A: "I am a volunteer with CoSA because I believe that we are all children of a loving God who desires that each of us have, and enjoy, freedom. Because of the stigma that is attached to the core members of CoSA, they need our support to re-enter society as free persons." - CoSA volunteer #CoSA #virtualCoSA #nomorevictims #nooneisdisposable #preventrecidivism #volunteer

"It takes a village to raise a child"—this timeless proverb speaks to the power of community. Whether you’re a foster carer, part of an organisation, or involved in your local community, we all have a role to play in supporting children in care. This communal care philosophy shaped fostering traditions long before formal systems existed, serving as a foundation for caregiving practices among Black families across the world. At BFCA, we’re exploring how fostering can be strengthened by the collective efforts of carers, organizations, and communities. How can we come together to provide the care and support that these children need? Let’s start the conversation. #BlackHistoryMonth #FosteringSupport #ItTakesAVillage #BFCA #CommunityCare"

Congratulations Justin Whitworth on receiving the Special Reach Star of Service! Justin is studying teacher education at Palo Alto College. He has worked as a donation attendant for 3 years at the Second Chances thrift shop and Helotes Humane Society. His hobbies include reading history and politics, going on walks, and making new friends. Justin says his favorite thing about Special Reach is that, "It is an uplifting place to volunteer. The staff, families, fellow volunteers and participants are kind members of the community. The energy and communication they bring helps bring out our comradery. Everyone leaves happy after each event." He adds, "Special Reach has solidified my decision to be a special education teacher. I've seen participants who were reluctant to try new activities and believe in themselves. I feel great joy being a volunteer at Special Reach events. I have made many friends and acquaintances in the community. I have learned many things from the teachers." We celebrate Justin for his outstanding contributions and thank him for his selfless dedication to improving our community! #specialneedschildren #takeabreak #sanantonio #volunteer #volunteersmakeadifference #community #communitysupport #communityimpact #makeadifference #specialeducation #disability #disabilityawareness #disabled #inclusion #autism #specialneeds #accessibility #autismawareness #autismspectrum #neurodiversity #love #disabilityadvocate #cerebralpalsy #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #disabilityrights #disabilityinclusion #downsyndrome #motivation #inspiration #diversitymatters
