Public-Private Partnerships and Regulatory Reform Are Key The final major takeaway from the workshop was the need to reduce regulatory barriers and empower the private sector to play a larger role in hypersonic development. Congressman Vince Fong highlighted the success of commercial space companies like SpaceX in partnering with the DoD to launch military satellites and other sensitive payloads into orbit. He argued that similar public-private partnerships are necessary to scale up hypersonic testing and production. According to Fong, there is a need for increased launch cadence and testing, which will require a more dynamic partnership between the government and private industry. Reducing regulatory obstacles and streamlining the acquisition process will be critical to maintaining the U.S.’s competitive edge in hypersonic technologies. “When you talk about the commercial space, I mean, we have to learn some hard lessons in terms of how we apply it to hypersonics,” said Fond. “Now that SpaceX is one of the partners that helps us launch DoD and other sensitive missions into space, space is going to be the next frontier for us. And so having the commercial-DoD public-private partnership—that’s critical for us, especially with the need to increase our cadence and launches.”

Defense Leaders: We Need to Invest in Space, Unmanned Systems for the Arctic Facing increased threats in the Arctic and growing concern about U.S. gaps in the region, the Pentagon will invest in more space-based and unmanned assets, defense officials said this week as they rolled out a new strategy for the region. “A key focus … is championing investments that will enhance our awareness of threats in the region,” Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Arctic and Global Resilience Iris Ferguson told reporters July 22. “We want to make sure that we have the right sensing architecture and the right communications architecture for command and control.” https://lnkd.in/dYt_pAT7 Star26 - we are an acquisition holding company in the defense technology sector. A must read for anyone who wants to better understand the Space-SOF-Cyber triad of USSPACECOM and what SOF brings to it. There are also some great areas for follow-up. Kevin Laliberte #USSPACECOM

It took me a few years and a 140pg thesis to work through this problem, but I finally had the opportunity to distill my thoughts into something that I hope is easily readable and relatable. As John J. Klein was getting ready to publish his book regarding irregular warfare in space, I was submitting my thesis for final approval. While his book covers the operational and strategic levels of irregular warfare in space, I wanted my research to examine irregular warfare at the tactical level as it concerned space warfare. My goal is enable operators and practitioners with new ideas about what space warfare is, and how USASOC, and indeed all of USSOCOM, can better campaign in the space domain. Many thanks to Jerry Drew, Thomas Goldner, Trent Lythgoe, PhD and Peter Im for helping me refine my thoughts. Gen. Jonathan Braga, articulated a new deterrence framework to his staff.1 This emergent framework included the space, cyberspace, and special operations communities having symbiotic relationships to converge effects throughout the competition continuum. As a homage to the nuclear Triad (intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers), this “special operations forces (SOF)-cyberspace-space Triad” provides policymakers additional options to campaign against our adversaries. While the Triad has made substantial headway, no existing literature delineates the nexus of the SOF-space relationship. Joint Publication 3-14, Space Operations, and Field Manual 3-14, Army Space Operations, are both quick to point out that SOF receives effects from space, but only a few student theses and authors tangentially describe how SOF can create effects in the space domain. In this study, the author elucidates the SOF-space segment of the Triad and recommends that the joint SOF enterprise conduct preparation of the environment, special reconnaissance, and military information support operations to set the conditions to influence, deceive, or degrade adversarial terrestrial-based, space-enabling infrastructure.

BAE Systems has been selected by the Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Enterprise Consortium (SpEC) to provide a prototype ground system for the U.S. Space Force’s SSC Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution Command and Control (FORGE C2) project. The goal of the FORGE C2 effort is to evolve the current ground architecture, leveraging newer technologies and architecture approaches. BAE Systems will integrate proven capabilities into a prototype ground system that will allow the Space Force to provide command and control capabilities for Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) GEO (NGG) and Next-Generation OPIR Polar (NGP) systems as well as enabling the transition of the legacy Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) assets. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/g5J-ZG4q
