Today some of our EverBright team dedicated their day to preserving the natural beauty of our beaches by volunteering for a beach cleanup at Loggerhead MarineLife Center. It is estimated that 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans every year. Since 2014, Loggerhead MarineLife Center volunteers have removed over 35,000 pounds of marine debris! A huge shout out to all team members who dedicated their Saturday to removing trash from our beaches and contributing to a plastic-free future. #ZeroPlastic #CleanWater #EarthDay #JunoBeach #loggerheadmarinelifecenter

Today is National Cleanup Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of keeping our environment clean and healthy. Litter and waste not only destroy the beauty of our landscapes but also harm wildlife, pollute our waterways, and contribute to environmental degradation. By participating in cleanup efforts—whether in your local park, along a beach, or in your neighborhood—you’re helping to protect our planet for future generations. It’s not just about picking up trash; it’s about cultivating a mindset of responsibility and stewardship for our shared environment. Want to get involved? Consider organizing or joining a local cleanup event, or simply make a commitment to reducing waste in your daily life. Every small action contributes to a larger impact. Do we like Mondays? No. Does good news make a Monday better? Yes. Two weeks ago, the Cleanup Peterborough team and 18 volunteers went along the Little Lake Shoreline to clean out trash and cigarette butts. They filled five full trash bags, a bag of clean recycling (water bottles, pop cans) and nearly 5200 cigarette butts. Yikes. All that had the potential of ending up in the lake to degrade the quality of our water, and everyone downstream. That's great work! Sure, you may skeptically say that it's going to be the same mess in another two weeks. Fair. There are people who never learn how to clean up after themselves. But with this data, the City and groups who use the land can plan ahead with extra trash receptacles and maybe some of those snazzy tamper-proof cigarette butt tower things. Yes, you can still see Dude or Dudette throwing their butts on the ground while standing right beside it. But more people may be inclined to properly dispose of their trash. Volunteering helps bring fresh new eyes to any situation. They show that there is a definite need for focus on specific issues. It's why we do what we do: bring volunteers to the agencies who need them. Because we mean it when we say #VolunteersArePriceless. Many ways to collect litter but 1️⃣ common goal of a Maryland free of trash and litter❗️ Systemic change at the source is why we are advocating for Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging! ✅Reduces Volume ✅Increases Sustainability ✅Increases Recyclability Read about the many mitigation strategies for litter. ⬇️
The flow of litter to the Anacostia River—particularly plastic bottles—is as stark as it is in many tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. D.C. leaders and various nonprofits work to reduce the trash as best they can. They rely on a variety of tactics like trash traps, skimmer boats, laws and regulations—even volunteers who pay for their kayak rental in the litter they pick up. Learn more about these efforts for #PlasticFreeJuly.

Like many of us, you may be pondering how you can contribute to the planet and your community on Earth Day. With our clean energy future, air and water quality, public lands, and endangered species on the line, it's crucial that we take action. Fortunately, the grassroots environmental movement is thriving, and every action we take to honor the planet counts. This year, there are several effective and enjoyable ways to make a difference. Here are a few: - Plant a tree or participate in a community garden to help promote greenery and clean air. - Organize a neighborhood clean-up event to keep streets and parks litter-free. - Reduce your carbon footprint by biking or walking instead of driving - Donate to an environmental organization or volunteer your time to help protect wildlife and their habitats. Let's come together on Earth Day to make a positive impact on our planet and future generations. Remember, every little bit counts! #EarthDay #EnvironmentalMovement #Sustainability

🌱 Corporate Social Responsibility in Action: Vistra and Serve the City Partnership. Once again, we joined forces with VISTRA for a community cleanup event that demonstrated the power of collaborative effort in corporate social responsibility. It was a day not only of environmental action but also of team building and community engagement. 👫 Volunteer Engagement: We were thrilled to see diverse groups of volunteers, including families, come together. The event included a fun-filled afternoon with activities like football, making it a truly family-friendly day. 🚯 Environmental Impact: The results speak for themselves - together, we collected 52.9 kg of trash, including almost 3,000 cigarette butts. With diligent sorting, over 75% of this waste will now be recycled, reducing the need for new resources and underscoring our commitment to sustainability. 🌿 Restoration Success: The cleanup not only beautified the local area of Kockelscheur but also restored it to its pristine condition, showcasing what we can achieve when we work together for a common cause. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and organizers. Your dedication to making a difference is inspiring and deeply valued. We look forward to future initiatives and continuing to make a positive impact on our communities and the planet. #VistraCares #ServeTheCity #Sustainability #CorporateSocialResponsibility #CommunityEngagement #TeamBuilding

This #ShowYourStripesDay, we thought we'd take a moment to celebrate all the climate-based activities we run as a BID, together with Reading businesses, to positively impact the town centre. Did you know, we: 📦 Provide businesses with access to weekly recycling and carboard collection at no extra charge, making it simple for businesses to do their bit for the environment and reduce their contribution to landfill (collecting on average over 5 tonnes of cardboard every week!). 🖥️ Provide small electrical waste disposal, meaning less business waste going to landfill (2 tonnes per year). 🌺 Work with the council to brighten the public realm of Reading with wild flowering in 3 areas, enhancing the environment, while supporting Reading’s important wildlife, insects and pollinators. 🧤 Helped run the Winter Warmer event in January which encourages Reading businesses and their employees to recycle and donate unwanted clothing to charities working with people most in need. 🦆 Supported Canals and Rivers Trust in their mission to look after miles of waterways across England, by delivering a project to install reedbeds along the Kennet and Avon Canal in the centre of Reading. 🚮 Initiate regular litter picking activities for local businesses and their staff to get involved with and give back to the community. Our environmental initiatives are more than just a tick-box exercise – and the impact goes far beyond businesses’ front doors. Each of these projects contribute towards Reading’s Net Zero objectives and ultimately help make our town a cleaner, greener place to visit, live and work – for everyone. https://lnkd.in/eG92wCMw #ReadingBID #businessimprovementdistrict #sustainability #towncentre #climatechange

Our year, 2024, started off in Matheran, a slice of the Western Ghats. It made us realize how much we yearn for the quaintness of nature that we do not get in urban regions. I was even ready to trade anything for fresh air and greenery. Matheran, along with other hill stations risk losing their evergreen trees and biodiversity if future development proceeds unchecked. While I hope for the best, there are things that we can do to preserve and restore ecological balance of the planet. This year’s World Environment Day theme is Generation Restoration, one that gives us the hope that what’s lost can be regained. Paresh and I have been educating ourselves and adopting environmentally friendly practices to reduce harmful impacts. As avid travelers, we always follow local waste management rules, recognizing the significant burden tourists can leave behind. We also educate others about these practices. While there is no compromise on that, here are a few sustainable habits we pledge to embrace. - Donate saplings and encourage those with gardens or land to plant trees - Donate clothes and household items in good condition. - Encourage adults to donate used books and children to read them. - Consciously minimize water wastage. Will be sharing the updates on these efforts in the coming months. Do share some of the practices you follow and the progress you’ve made. PS: Having a partner (parent, spouse, sibling, friend, or anyone else) makes it easier to stay mindful and committed to sustainability. #GenerationRestoration #EnvironmentDay #Sustainability
