Let's talk about #EBA's 😨 How on Earth would we manage or maintain our EBA rules as we go through new negotiations❓ One of the most common questions I get asked during my demos. I've seen the benefits of having a system that provides award 'templates' but this can't help everyone that goes through the process of creating their own EBA or anyone that pays differently to their awards. ☠ Some things to keep in mind when comparing award engines that are configurable to something that is templated or pre-built: 1. You have the power to maintain and update your own rules, as they change. You control the business, why not control how you pay? 2. When configurability is coupled with date driven, any retrospective changes can automatically apply back payments (we all know how EBA negotiations can be drawn out). 3. You keep the system knowledge inhouse, which can greatly reduce costs when making changes. Choose something that ensures you maintain control. Undertaking initial assessments for worker classification purposes is no small task, especially for large businesses 🏢 . The last thing you want to do is repeat the process every year. 🔁 Here are 5 steps to maintain worker classification compliance after you’ve done the heavy lifting: 1. Start with a good base. Analyse your purchasing channel as well as HR / Talent / MSP to ensure you have a full picture of all the contractors you have identified. 2. Ensure regular checks on each contractor's engagement. This allows you to ensure that the status doesn’t change and allows you to take action if it does. If you set this on a risk profile, you know how to efficiently apply your time. 3. Ensure a systemised process to track workers classified as contractors. Without this, contractors can extend, and disappear into the system. Check that you have assessed each engagement, as the nature and agreements can change. 4. Implement consistent contracts for contract workers. This reduces the risk of being tripped up by inconsistencies in the contract and working practices. These inconsistencies are often what lead to significant liability. 5. Implement training for your team and contractors. A base level of knowledge allows red flags to be raised and increases awareness of obligations and responsibilities.
