Administrative Supplements to Promote Diversity in Research and Development Small Businesses - SBIR/STTR #DiversityandInclusion Are you interested in supporting more diversity and inclusion in your biotechnology? The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Small Business Program is accepting applications for Diversity Supplements, which are administrative funds (up to $250,000 in direct costs) to enhance the research and entrepreneurial workforce’s diversity by recruiting and supporting students, post-docs, and eligible investigators from underrepresented groups in health-related research into the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Scientists, entrepreneurs, and trainees from diverse backgrounds and life experiences bring unique perspectives, creativity, and individual enterprise to address complex scientific problems. Participation by minority, socially and economically disadvantaged, and women-owned small businesses is critical to the success of the SBIR and STTR programs as well as to the development of new treatments, technologies, and products that address healthy aging. Start Where You Are, Use What You Have, Do What You Can!!! Greetings and happy LinkedIn social Saturday #linkedincommunity! Today, I chose to reflect on an issue that echoes the profound wisdom of Arthur Ashe: "Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can." In this our chosen field of #medicallaboratory practice, endeavor to embrace the beginning of your journey – the early days in the lab, the moments of uncertainty, and the thrill of discovering the intricacies of diagnostics. Start where you are – inquisitive, eager, and ready to make a difference in your own little way. Whether it's a microscope, a pipette, or a state-of-the-art analyzer, leverage the resources at your disposal. Don't underestimate the impact of using what you have; sometimes, a keen eye and a well-calibrated instrument are all it takes to unveil a diagnostic revelation. The medical field evolves, and so must we. As #laboratoryscientists, we are perpetual learners. Embrace change, whether it's a new methodology, technology, or even a new technique. Do what you can to stay informed, adapt, and contribute to the ever-advancing landscape of medical diagnostics. Very importantly, strive for personal and professional growth. Attend workshops/conferences (I will still have to amplify this in my latter post), seek mentorship, and engage in collaborative initiatives. Use what you have learned to enhance your skills and, in turn, elevate the standards of your laboratory practices. In the laboratory, we seldom work in isolation. Forge connections with your colleagues not just in your laboratory, even here on #LinkedIn, share insights, and celebrate successes together. Remember, collaboration amplifies impact. Doing what you can extends beyond individual efforts – it's about contributing to a collective pursuit of professional growth and excellence. Finally, embrace the journey, start where you are, use the tools at your disposal, and do what you can to push the boundaries beyond where you are and in turn amplify the impact of your daily work.
