#GoProForACause Spotlight: City to the Sea with City Surf Project + WILDCOAST GoPro for a Cause is our nonprofit partnership and donation program, aimed at generating awareness for causes that align with our core values. In 2023, we brought two of our GoPro for a Cause partners together for an adventure along the California Coast. Student alumni of City Surf Project and leaders of WILDCOAST spent a week together - sharing, teaching and learning from one another about the ways each organization interacts with ocean habitats and how they apply principles of conservation to these environments. Paddle on over to our blog, The Current, to watch the epic adventure City Surf Project students embarked on with WILDCOAST and learn how you can get involved and help support their work.

👑 Freegle is excited to announce our 'UK Reuse Champion' for 2023! It's CROYDON! Congratulations to Croydon Freegle for facilitating remarkable amounts of reuse during the past 12 months - 288 tonnes to be exact! Croydon have retained this title for the third year running! 🎉 Each year, the title of Freegle Reuse Champion is awarded to the Freegle community with the greatest tonnage recorded as reused. Of course there are lots of factors that influence how much any community will reuse, with the size of community playing a large part in success. Croydon Freegle - an established community with lots to offer. ✅ Croydon Freegle has been facilitating reuse locally since 2011. ✅ Over 37,000 freeglers belong to Croydon Freegle. ✅ During 2023, 16, 500 posts went live on the site. ✅ Over 86% of posts were for items on OFFER. ✅ 84% of items offered on Croydon Freegle were successfully re-homed. Local volunteers make Freegle what it is. Freegle volunteers in Croydon (and in all Freegle communities) work all-year-round to help maintain and moderate the UK's biggest and friendliest FREE online sharing platform. We salute and thank all of our amazing volunteers. Without them, Freegle simply wouldn't exist. Congratulations to the Croydon Freegle community and special thanks to all Freegle volunteers, up and down the U.K., who work so hard to make Freegle possible. Generosity really helps when times are hard. Dee - one of the volunteer moderators for Croydon commented: "We are delighted to be top of the tonnage reused league table for the third year running. A year during which world events caused increased prices and financial problems for many." "In Croydon - as in other Freegle groups - more people offer items for re-use than ask for them. This generosity really helps when times are hard. Also there are a lot of freeglers in our community - a big, busy group has a big advantage." The spirit of community shines on. There's little doubt that Freegle helps a lot of people in Croydon and across the U.K. The words of one freegler from Croydon Freegle helps sums up why we all need a bit more Freegle in the world: "The world needs more of the spirit of community, the world needs less of a drive to consume endless amounts of new things, the world needs to get more local - the world needs Freegle!!!" Check out other inspiring user testimonials on the Freegle stories page. Our film "Biketown" has helped raise $100,000 for trail advocacy groups around the country. In 2021, Port Side Productions partnered with Freehub Media to produce a documentary film called "Biketown." Inspired by our local mountain bike community in Bellingham, WA we set out to create a film that would inspire mountain bike communities around the country to find a path forward to form partnerships with their local land managers. The result? - A 45-minute film that has been viewed 390,000 times - 44 in-person screening events around the country - $100,000 raised for local trail organizations around the country A film with a strong call to action can be an incredibly valuable tool when deployed well. Not all projects need a strong call to action, but when community action is needed, there is nothing like the power of a story to move people. Curious to learn more about what it took to develop this project? https://lnkd.in/gj2ye8nG

Over the next 6 months, as I’ve got extra time to fill my calendar, I’m looking to dedicate a serious amount of my time to long distance running. This will not only help me keep fit but gives me the head space to consider some of lifes challenges. For anybody wanting some creative lift or strategic space the outdoors is a great alternative to sitting in the office! (whether it's a 5km run or 50km run) I’m excited to let you know that I’ve joined The Green Runners community which brings together two of my personal passions; to live a more sustainable life and running. My pledges (which need to be renewed annually) are: 1. I will reduce my red meat consumption further. 2. For my running gear I will look into brands’ sustainability policies and only purchase from reputable brands. 3. I will take public or other environmentally friendly transport when commuting to running events. 4. I will advocate for The Green Runners group on social media and raise their awareness. I’d like to take this opportunity to ask my network to spend 5 minutes of your time looking over the website www.thegreenrunners.com or their Linkedin page https://lnkd.in/daZx6u-i and if you want to make a pledge please support the cause by signing up sharing your pledge/s. #freetime #inspiration #climatehelp #running #ultra #greenrunners

Bike Swaps in May 2024 Edmonton Bike Swaps - what’s new, what’s old, and how you can help us help others. 01 May 2024 - Alberta Bike Swap was founded in 2011 to provide a safe place to buy, sell, and donate bikes. Over the last 13 years Chris and Laura Grant have swapped thousands of tech-checked and serial-number recorded bikes. They’ve also been a conduit for thousands of donated bikes and they fund safe cycling in Alberta through the only recognized and standardized cycling education program – CAN-BIKE. What’s new? 1. There are two Edmonton Bike Swap events: May 11 at MacEwan University north side underground parking lot 10803 – 105 Ave NW and June 8 at CCT Golf Dome 11925 Kingsway NW. 2. Alberta Bike Swap is hosting a bike donation drive for Sports Central at both Edmonton Bike Swaps; 3. Alberta Bike Swap is building the CAN-BIKE certified effective cycling instructor base for the next generation. The first stage is a Level 4 Course May 25-26 and the Instructor Workshop May 30 - June 2. What’s old? This is still old: Ask anyone in Alberta whether they’ve heard about Alberta Bike Swap and you’ll typically get, “yes, I’ve heard of them”. This is getting really old, so please help us get the word out. What’s important? Alberta Bike Swap are honoured to be Bike Index Ambassadors and will continue preventing the selling and buying of stolen bikes; Sport Central’s mission is to empower kids, one piece of sports equipment at a time. The power of a bike is not limited to the hours of enjoyment a kid will experience, but also opens a new world of independence, physical activity, and offers an additional method of transportation. Last year, Sport Central Association saw a 48% increase in utilization of their services. The Bike program alone saw a 70% increase, and this is where you come in – please consider donating your outgrown or unused bicycles at either Edmonton Bike Swap or one of their other 46 donation locations so these bikes can go to those in need. #bikes #bikeswap #alberta Laura Grant https://lnkd.in/gPDCSjU2
