At ofi, our purpose is to “be the change for good food and a healthy future.” So, sparked by the consumer insight that U.S. consumers are focused on reducing waste via upcycling, ofi brought that purpose to life by creating six versatile upcycled sauces. We tapped into on-trend flavors and flavor profiles that consumers are looking for (truffle, honey, agave, roasted, smoked) to develop sauces unlike any others on the market. These chile sauces, which recently were launched to our private-label customers, contain pulp from chile pods that traditionally would have been discarded after the seed breeder had extracted the seeds. The upcycled pulp along with other clean label ingredients are combined to create the sauces that not only aim to reduce food waste but taste delicious. They can be used for marinades, sauces, dressings and more throughout the day. We are proud that all six sauces have been certified by the Upcycled Food Association Upcycled Food Association, meaning that more than 10 percent of the product is made with upcycled ingredients.
