If you've been to PCNW lately, you may have noticed student and member images popping up on the wall by the darkroom area and in the north digital lab. Meet the Pushpin Gallery! The Pushpin Gallery is an exclusive display space for PCNW members and students. It was designed as a space to show work that was made at PCNW, either in the darkroom or in the digital labs. It is located on the west-facing wall at the very end of the darkroom area and has recently been expanded to the digital lab upstairs. What can be submitted: any photographic work that was made in a class or a workshop at PCNW. There is no theme or parameters, we just ask that the work submitted was made in-house in either the digital lab or darkroom- work of all levels, from beginner to advanced, is encouraged! How to submit: fill out a submission form (which can be found at the front desk) and turn in your work along with the completed form to the front desk! We will be in touch with you when your work is up on the wall. Timeline: The Pushpin Gallery operates on a rolling deadline, you may submit anytime! Work in the gallery will be refreshed every quarter and you will be contacted when you work is ready to be returned. Questions? Contact Kira at pushpingallery@pcnw.org https://lnkd.in/g6UfqNQy

This video (taken and produced by Adam McGrath) was of an exhibition made from a small collection of my PhD work. The venue was the Mixing Room Gallery - the top floor of Thor's Hammer (a recycled timber company) here in Canberra. Showing there and with them, made me think about how 'the making' and 'the final forms' were both important and prominently visible in my work. With the title of the show being 'Basic Constructs', I wanted to draw reference to the definition of the term in it being both: a verb (the common way to build or form something by assembling parts). This idea is expressed with the concise collection of artifacts and imagery from the making process. This collection looks to illustrate the small steps taken towards the creation of a series of work and how the making of a series resulted in the making of the next. a noun (in reference to a basic construct as a general notion/model). For this collection of work, the shipping container served as the basic construct whereas the shipping container serves as a basic construct from which a global system of commerce is enabled into movement.

Public art transcends aesthetic appeal, establishing itself as an essential component of humanity's cultural nourishment. In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, where digital and mechanical interfaces often dominate our interactions, public art offers a vital respite—a moment of solace and reflection. It feeds the soul and invigorates the mind, reminding us of our shared histories, values, and dreams. By integrating art into our everyday environments, we not only beautify our spaces but also foster a collective sense of identity and understanding, making it a crucial part of our mental and emotional wellbeing.

Collection management is a fundamental aspect of the care and preservation of art collections, whether they are owned by museums, galleries or private collectors. Let's delve into the practical side of art collection management: Record keeping and documentation: Catalogue: Each artwork in the collection must have a detailed record. This includes information about its location, acquisition history, condition, and any conservation or restoration efforts. Digitization: Collection management software allows institutions to digitize records, making it easier to search for specific objects and update information as needed. Curators, conservators, archivists, researchers, and administrators rely on these records to maintain the entire collection. Conservation and restoration: Monitoring: Collection management software facilitates preservation and restoration efforts. This ensures that artworks are properly cared for, preventing damage and deterioration. Retaining value: Proper conservation preserves the value of a work of art over time. Whether it's preventing short-term wear and tear or ensuring long-term stability, professionals play a critical role in art conservation. #artcollectionmanagement #artcollection #collectart #collectors
