Having spent years working with private equity clients, we are delighted to have added to our offering in this space by welcoming Peter Keller to Venari Partners! We are thrilled to have added valuable experience to our private equity team – and now that Peter has well and truly settled in, we thought it would be a good idea to outline his experience in this sector while providing an overview of the market and what to expect as we expand our PE offering. Why is it more important than ever for PE firms to drive value creation through adding talent? Check out the article for more on Pete’s career to date, the state of play for PE right now, and how having the right talent strategy can pay dividends. #privateequity #industrials #executivesearch #talent

As I reach the end of my second term as Managing Partner at Borenius, I am excited to announce that my esteemed colleague, Johan Roman, will assume the role of Managing Partner. Johan has been a key member of our management team during my tenure and is ideally suited to steer Borenius into its next phase of growth. Reflecting on my eight years and two terms as Managing Partner, the paramount question arises: What has been most crucial? Above all, I am reassured that the firm is in a stronger position than when I began. The journey of developing a firm and its culture is ongoing, yet I take modest pride in the progress achieved under my stewardship. Assuming the role of Managing Partner at 40 in 2016, I initially doubted my readiness, lacking the typical "gray hair" and not fitting the conventional profile for the role. My background in environmental and natural resources law and a focus more on people, culture, innovation, and opportunities than on financials as such made me an unconventional choice. Nevertheless, it swiftly became apparent that a focus on people, culture, and leadership is integral to financial success—a notion that, though now self-evident, was somewhat pioneering at the time. Throughout my tenure, I've had the privilege of continuing to advise clients while engaging with C-suite executives, leveraging extensive networks, and adopting a strategic and business-oriented approach as Managing Partner. This role has enriched my capabilities as an advisor, bridging business insights with policy-making to unlock new avenues for delivering value. As I transition from my role, I am thrilled to continue my journey with Borenius, leading our market-leading team focused on industrial investments and green transition projects. This aligns with my passion, and I am keen to devote my full energy to advising on large-scale projects. Serving as Managing Partner has been a profound honor, and I am proud of our collective achievements. I look forward to witnessing the firm's ongoing success under Johan's skilled leadership, which merges the strengths we have cultivated with the vision and leadership our clients trust and value. Here's to new beginnings and the continued prosperity of Borenius! ✨
We have appointed Johan Roman as our new Managing Partner, effective from 1 June. Prior to stepping into the role of Managing Partner, Johan headed the firm’s M&A and Private Equity team, and in his new role Johan will continue advising the firm’s clients in demanding M&A projects. “It’s a great privilege to be asked to undertake this role. During my 20 years with the firm, I have seen tremendous transition and growth. As we move forward, we are committed to remaining the preferred partner for our clients, in both legal and strategic advice,” notes Johan. Congratulations!

We are thrilled to have been named one of the Top 50 PE Firms in the Middle Market by Grady Campbell Incorporated for the fourth year in a row! According to GCI, their award program is one of the oldest and most respected programs designed specifically to acknowledge and promote small and mid-sized leading private equity firms that have an exceptional track-record and reputation. Read the full list here: https://lnkd.in/gajYNTGm #ArgosyPE #Top50 #LowerMiddleMarket #Awards This award is the opinion of the party conferring the award and not of Argosy. The Top 50 PE Firms in the Middle Market award, issued by GCI Publishing on 1/21/2025, was based on 2024 activity. Argosy submitted a nomination, and once selected, paid a nominal amount to GCI in connection with using the award logo. There can be no assurance that other providers or surveys would reach the same conclusion as the foregoing.

✨NXD Programme: Session 4✨ The role of an NXD in a Private Equity (PE) backed business differs significantly from that in a listed business, largely depending on the involved PE firms and their agendas. The key objective is rigorous alignment among the management team, investors, and customers, a challenging task for the Chair but crucial for the business's success and strategy. Tensions often arise among investors, founders, and management, necessitating board adjustments to ensure the right skills and experience. PE firms typically drive change and appoint Investment Directors, requiring Chairs to navigate potential conflicts. Accountability for the Chair/NXD in PE is higher, though responsibility is shared with hands-on investors, contrasting with the more distant engagement of listed company investors. Navigating this complex process and ensuring all voices are heard is essential for an effective Chair in a PE-backed business. This session will feature insights from experienced funders and Chair/NXDs on overcoming these challenges. 👉 For more information: https://loom.ly/azHwsxs University of Edinburgh Business School | Calum Paterson | John Watson #CareerDevelopment #ExecutiveEducation #NonExecutive Judy Wagner John Amis

Alicia Miller found that private equity firms were the ones actively searching for new brands that caught their attention. However, their interest didn't mean they were ready to invest right away. For a new brand with only a few units, it was common to get calls and emails from these firms. Alicia warns that getting too excited about these opportunities could lead to wasting time and potentially harming the brand's reputation if not handled properly. She advises making sure everything is well-prepared before jumping into the private equity scene. With Alicia Miller, NACD.DC, CMAA, CFE #PrivateEquityInvestment #EmergingBrands #BusinessPreparation

PE - Top PE Firms Have Dual Expertise: Investing & Operating One of the best investors in the world always got it right: "I am a better investor because I am a businessman, and a better businessman because I am an investor." - Warren Buffett --- How this applies to PE: - Top decile PE firms have great investment teams and great operating expertise in-house - PE investors are good at investing when they are also have deep expertise in understanding operations, both from their own experience and from their colleagues who've been there and done that - The most successful PE firms of tomorrow are those who have already built their operating expertise as a truly core part of their firm's business model --- #pe #privateequity

Simone Girardeau returns with part two of her series on the role of Value Creation in a private equity context, and what it means for management teams. She sets out the different models of Value Creation team, and the important role they might play pre-deal, during the hold and at exit. One of the things that differentiates us at Coppett Hill Growth Advisory is that we have worked in private equity value creation and investment roles, as operators and as consultants, meaning we can help to translate between these worlds. We aim to shed some light on the context behind certain Board dynamics, requests from your PE representative, or changes in priorities.
