Some months ago , I was shortlisted for an interview in one of the biggest mining companies in my country and was surprised to see a familiar face on the interview panel—my former Engineering Superintendent! Not long before that, I found myself in a different interview process where I needed a recommendation from a former supervisor. This time, the biggest mining company in my country. It was a reminder of just how interconnected our industry is. These experiences have taught me the importance of building and maintaining strong professional relationships. You never know when your paths will cross again, and how those connections might impact your career. Treating everyone with respect, regardless of their position, isn't just about professionalism—it's about recognizing the value that each individual brings to the table. "The door of safety swings on the hinges of common sense" This quote actually emphasizes the importance of applying practical wisdom and rational thinking to avoid harm or danger with in our mining operations. Common sense refers to using sound judgment based on everyday knowledge and experience to make decisions that protect oneself and others. Just as a door requires well-functioning hinges to open and close effectively, our safety and well-being rely on our ability to think critically and make sensible choices in various situations. By prioritizing common sense in our actions and decisions as my Rompad supervisor Scott Huston normally say self (DECISION MAKING), we can navigate life's challenges more effectively and prevent unnecessary risks and potential tendency of an accident to occur. It was well digested with more positive responses from the entire workforce.
