AI in perfumery, my option on this hot 🔥 topic! As you might know, I used to work for a huge corporate perfume house. In the past, big companies such as P&G, L'Oreal, Unilever etc. understood the importance of cultural differences when it comes to perfume taste. Consequently, they had different perfumes for different countries. Think of your liquid detergent for instance: it would need to smell more soapy in Italy, but more white floral in France. As an example. However, with the globalization efforts of big corporates, this country-specific personalization got too time & budget costly 🤷♂️ . Companies were rather looking for perfumes "that can travel the world" to make their lives easier. Well, there we go with the standardized perfume creation. And our job was basically to find perfumes that everybody likes... no matter the cultural differences! --> AI can help tremendously with the creation of standardized average perfumes, I am pretty sure. And it will cost of lot of perfumers jobs... BUT as soon as we leave this mass-market perfumery, I strongly believe that there is plenty of room for creativity and success stories.
