“The proposal of MDMA-AT, in its very presentation, is expected to be confounding. It is an unprecedented proposal. In addition, PTSD is confounding and not easily, nor scientifically, measurable. Therapy is confounding, and not easily or scientifically measurable. But the confounding nature of this study, this therapeutic work, and this diagnosis presentation, do not negate the results.” Southeast Coalition of Psychedelic Practitioners understands the arduous process Lykos and the FDA have begun. We support the continued efforts of this review to educate, reform, and define the process of MDMA-AT moving forward. Read the full statement below.

Not taking sides or stating opinions here. Just sharing out some data 😁. Inspired by today's 5-bullet Friday (Tim Ferris Newsletter), I've charted out potential remission rates of PTSD patients when treated with MDMA vs. placebo. 💖 This is based on the idea that 13 million adults are diagnosed with PTSD at any given moment and with MDMA treatment their is a 40% remission rate vs. a 14% remission with Placebo + Therapy treatment (according to the linked article written and cited by a panel of research scientists and doctors). Great to catch up with Kevin Crombie, Michelle P., James Whitworth - all doing brilliant exercise and PTSD research, at the AB Korkor Foundation for Mental Health "Motion Impacts Emotion" conference. Great to see promising data from Kevin building on this comprehensive review he led in 2023 and how precisely timed aerobic exercise may enhance the consolidation and subsequent recall of fear extinction learning. A vast amount of experimental research has been dedicated to identifying memory mechanisms underlying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). But what if our experiments do not accurately reflect real world PTSD symptoms? Dr Luke Ney from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) was the recipient of a 2022 Investigator Grant for his research into PTSD. The treatment of PTSD can be challenging as the biological and cognitive processes involved are unclear. Dr Ney’s research seeks to better understand the memory processes underlying PTSD– these are the memory processes that we need to be targeting during therapy. Dr Ney’s project will benchmark current experimental fear extinction models of PTSD against real world clinical outcomes, such as treatment success and disease course that will allow his team to identify and treat PTSD #PTSDAwarenessDay2024.

Despite 40 years of research, the FDA recently voted against MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD, leaving millions of people without good treatment options. 🎙️ I’m joined by Hamilton Morris on The Psychedelic Report to unpack this controversial decision and the misinformation fueling it. Propaganda is powerful. Find out how to sift through it all to find the truth we’re all looking for in this episode! We dive into the backlash against Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), the media’s inappropriate focus on clinical trial misconduct, and why we must rely on evidence over fear-based narratives when evaluating MDMA-assisted therapy (and all therapies for that matter!). Tune in for a deeper look at what’s really behind the FDA’s decision and where we go from here. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gYS4z-jW

🎉 Who would have thought that ecstasy, once labeled as a party drug, could hold the key to treating PTSD? 🚀 Exciting strides have been made by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) in their groundbreaking journey toward making MDMA the first FDA-approved psychedelic drug. 👥 MAPS CEO, Amy Emerson, states, "This is a potential new option for adults living with PTSD, a patient group that has experienced little innovation in decades." 🌟 MAPS has submitted the first-ever FDA New Drug Application (NDA) for MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD, backed by a successful phase three clinical trial where 86.5% of participants achieved a clinically meaningful benefit. Copied from the LSAD instagram- The Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin is conducting a virtual study investigating a behavioral task (playing a game, like Tetris) to treat a trauma memory and associated symptoms. We are currently recruiting people who experienced a traumatic event for a research study. What is a traumatic event? It can be... * War and combat * Rape and sexual assault * Domestic abuse * A physical assault * Being the victim of a violent crime * Experiencing a car accident * Witnessing death or serious injury What will I be asked to do if I participate in this research study? * Complete an online pre-screening questionnaire to determine your eligibility * Complete a total of 2 virtual visits * Be randomly assigned to a complete a behavioral task (like playing Tetris or a word association game) or no game control * Go through a trauma memory reactivation procedure during the first and second virtual visits * Complete a series of questionnaires You do not need to have PTSD to participate in this study. If you participate, you will be asked to be in this virtual study for about two weeks. If you are interested in participating in this research study, please complete the survey below: https://lnkd.in/eJFHjizz
