A river of (Pentair) blue 💧
Today, we had the opportunity to take all 88 Pentair interns away from their packed Intern Summit Week in Golden Valley to (literally) get their hands dirty. Everyone experienced the phenomenal work of the Pentair Foundation’s restoration partner, Great River Greening, firsthand by planting 400 native plants along the Rum River.
I’m so proud of all of the interns for rolling up their sleeves, braving the summer heat, and creating a positive ripple effect for this watershed. 🌳 #teampentair#pentairproud
Wendy Sangucho Loachamin, an #OASEIntern at Ever Fresh Fruit Co, writes:
I had an “aha” moment while observing how pails were cleaned. Since I already knew what kind of nozzle (pressure and flow) was used and how many pails were cleaned annually, I can estimate how much water is used to clean pails in a year by measuring the time it takes to clean one pail.
Up to this point, I thought that the only way I could obtain this data was using an ultrasonic flow meter, but then I realized that there are other approaches as well, each with advantages and disadvantages. The #OASE program has provided opportunities to learn from people with years of experience in the food and other industries, improve my communication skills, and become less shy and more assertive.

Bri DeLeon, an #OASEIntern at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, writes:
The first half of my internship at the Oregon Coast Aquarium has focused on identifying their most common sources of plastics and investigating sustainable alternatives.
One key area for plastics is laundry. Since the Aquarium does a large quantity of laundry daily, I have been experimenting with two microfiber filters. Microfibers are the most predominant type of microplastic found in our oceans and have damaging health impacts on marine ecosystems. In addition to these filters, we have researched alternative glove disposal options and reusable dishware in our cafe!
In the coming weeks, I hope to continue experimenting with different alternatives and determine the most effective options to recommend. Additionally, crafting a guidance document that the Aquarium staff and volunteers can utilize to accomplish their plastic reduction goals!

Celebrating our leaders of tomorrow, our Hord Coplan Macht student interns on #NationalInternDay
Paid student internships prepare future professionals to enter the workplace with valuable skills upon graduation. Many of our full time professionals, including myself, got their first taste of work life as student interns.
Take a look at what our 2024 interns have been up to in the video below.

Celebrating Our Future Leaders on National Intern Day! 🌟
At Hord Coplan Macht, our interns bring energy, creativity, and passion to everything they do. We are grateful for their contributions and proud to support their professional growth. Here's to our amazing interns! #NationalInternDay#NID
Such a great reflection. Most advisers and students that have interns for their studies do not understand the sacrifice it takes to leave their homes, and make hard decisions to reach both their professional and personal goals. Earning opportunities is hard enough. However, opportunities should also aim to fulfill aspirations, respect common needs such as: eating on time, drinking enough water, having a proper place to rest, and safe installations to perform their activities. Opportunities are hope, and should never compromise physical and mental well being. Interns deserve a place on discussion tables, their names written in papers they participated in, and have the ability to show what they have learned and what they are made of. Interns are NOT less. They also have degrees, they also have knowledge, they CAN supply added value to any field, and they represent an opportunity to show how good a college and their advisors are for the rest of the world. No matter where they come from, or their background. 📝
“You’ve got interns for that”
”you’re so lucky to have interns to do the sorry chores”
My biggest pet peeve….. I do have interns you’re correct but, I’ll not treat them like I’m above them.
There’s two kinds of leaders one that demands respect and one that earns respect. Yall guess who gains true respect and who gains nominal work atmosphere respect.
These interns give up 6 months of their time to come under our care to learn and grow. We poor everything we can into them so they can go out and be successful. If that means I wash a trailer or clean a feed bunk on a day that there is something they can really gain knowledge from so be it. In return when I do ask them to do something they’re more than willing and do it with a positive attitude.
Food for thought!
What type of leader are you?
How do your employees view you?
Do better, be better, produce better for our future!

Today was mid-summer performance review time at CHS Inc. with my summer college intern. Now, some managers may cringe when performance review time rolls around. I, on the other hand look forward to it! And here's why:
✔️ This is time for you as a leader to really listen. Hear what is going well and what might not be going so well.
✔️ Now that you've listened repeat what you've heard.
✔️ Next ask clarifying or thought provoking questions. This shows that you care about them and are as excited about their future as they are.
✔️ Last, allow plenty of time for your intern to ask you questions. You never know when they might need some advice or guidance.

🌎 Global Minds, Cultivated Solutions: My U21 Micro-Internship Journey 🚅
From diverse corners of the globe, we came together – a team of passionate students on the U21 Sustainable Micro-internship. Collaborating with Newform, a rising star in cultivated meat, we faced the challenge of tackling significant hurdles like high production costs and limited research funding.
Thinking beyond the lab, we strategized:
•Funding Fusion: We proposed a dynamic partnership between The Plenty Foundation and NGOs, uniting their efforts for environmental and health sustainability.
•Market Expansion: We envisioned strategic partnerships with complementary companies, like spice and beverage purveyors, broadening Newform's reach.
•Catering to Change: We explored expanding into the pet food industry, capitalizing on the growing demand for sustainable and healthy pet products.
This internship wasn't just about the "what;" it was about the "how."
•Diversity Drives Innovation:Max Reynolds, Lesego Dikobe, Mayank Barnwal , Supraja Bala,Zhentong Peng,Michelle Read,Maisha Jahan a team as diverse as our solutions, fueled our creative problem-solving.
•Sustainability Savvy: We honed our skills in analyzing and planning for success within the sustainability-focused business landscape.
•Tech Meets Impact: We witnessed firsthand how innovative thinking can bridge the gap between technology and sustainability goals.
A heartfelt thank you to Forum for International Networking in Education (U21 FINE) ,Common Purpose , and Newform Foods for empowering us to share our ideas with the world and make a meaningful impact. This experience solidified the power of global collaboration and innovative thinking in creating a more sustainable future.

Standard Foods Internship Achievement Report
佳格實習結業分享 06/20
🎓 Today, I presented my internship report to the CEO and numerous supervisors at Standard Foods headquarters.
💬 Agenda
1. Main content of the internship
2. What I gained the most
3. My understanding of Standard Foods before and after the internship
4. Suggestions for the company from an ESG perspective
🚘On the way to the presentation,
I was in the car with our supervisor. He shared his thoughts on interns with me. He said, "Your opinions are not whimsical; everything you share or propose helps us think outside the box. We've been here for 8 years or more, and things might start to feel routine. However, times have changed, and there are always improvements to be made. We need your fresh perspective! Your opinions are valuable."
He gently added, "I know you might want some time to review the presentation. Let’s listen to some study music." I was so moved by his words. 🤩

Cate Stone, an #OASEIntern at Pacific Seafood, writes:
As a Wastewater Pollutant and BMP intern for Pacific Seafood, my primary project goal is to reduce pollutant concentrations in the company’s seafood processing wastewater. The first half of my internship focused on building background knowledge about the seafood industry and wastewater permit limits, understanding how wastewater from finfish and shrimp processing is generated and treated, and identifying areas of opportunity for upstream solid waste separation during facility visits.
The second half of my internship will be focused on choosing best management practices (BMPs) to recommend to facility general managers, then conducting feasibility studies to calculate the implementation costs, financial savings, and wastewater pollutant reductions of each BMP. Below is a photo of me sampling shrimp processing water at a hydro sieve before and after shell removal!
Cate is participating in the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience: Internship Program, which is run by Oregon Sea Grant and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
