🌳🏙️ Urban Greening Insights from Medan's Treebuddy Club Event 🏙️🌳 Today, I had the privilege of participating in an enlightening Treebuddy Club gathering that centered on the indispensable role of trees in urban environments, with a focus on school environment in the vibrant city of Medan. The event was a real booster to community engagement, drawing over 100 attendees who shared a common passion for environmental sustainability and urban greening. 🍃💼 The discussions we had were not only insightful but also deeply inspiring. We delved into the myriad benefits that urban trees offer, including: Air Quality Improvement: Trees act as natural air filters, absorbing pollutants and providing us with cleaner air. Temperature Regulation: Through shade and transpiration, trees significantly reduce urban heat island effects, making our cities cooler and more comfortable. Biodiversity Support: Urban trees are vital habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife, enhancing biodiversity in city landscapes. Mental Health Benefits: The presence of green spaces and trees in cities has been linked to reduced stress levels, improved mood, and overall better mental health. Stormwater Management: Trees play a crucial role in managing stormwater runoff, reducing flooding and erosion by absorbing large amounts of water. I'm also excited to share that TreebuddyEarth is launching a pilot project in Medan to further explore and expand the benefits of urban trees. This initiative represents a significant step forward in our commitment to creating greener, healthier, and more sustainable urban spaces. 🌍🌳 I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful conversation and look forward to contributing to the growth and success of this pilot project. We would like to thank all participants of the 6th Global Real Estate Run. The 700+ participants completed a total of 4'200 km. This is roughly equivalent to the distance between #NewYork and #LosAngeles. Quite impressive and extremely gratifying because for every completed km we are able to plant a #tree thanks to the support of the participating teams and partners. To emphasize this generation-friendly commitment, we as organizers take the liberty of rounding up the number of trees to 5000. Learn how this sustainable microcity is innovating in Mexico (and how you can live there) Kuyabeh is a 375-hectare community land project in the Yucatan Peninsula that is the first in Mexico to have achieved legal status as an "ecoaldea", an eco-community basically. They helped amend the laws to achieve this special status, granting them ability to have sustainable infrastructure that wouldn't otherwise be permitted in a city-scale project, like natural roads and the absence of harsh streetlights. The picture is of the natural pool they built, dedicated to the Aluxes of the forest, a Mayan legend. We've been collaborating with Kuyabeh for 2 years now, and this will be the site of the first Regen Tribe clubhouse. The project is selling lots and houses in the community, which are constantly rising in value. Voltiris is cooperating with the Dutch greenhouse builder HORCONEX to further develop the integration of our spectrally filtering solar modules for greenhouses. The trial taking place at Delphy in Bleiswijk (The Netherlands) has 3 main goals: 1) Clean and local energy generation without compromise. The energetic output of the 60 modules will be used to further validate the energy output of the modules, and demonstrate the high potential for energy self-consumption (behind-the-meter) for greenhouses. The trial will also demonstrate that peppers can be grown without agronomical impact below the Voltiris modules, following the successful trials held during 2023 at Wageningen University & Research. 2) Seamless integration of the Voltiris modules in existing greenhouses. The HORCONEX team has came with an innovative solution to ensure that our modules are compatible with crops that require frequent screen operations, by integrating our modules in-between the two screens. The reflection of the excess sunlight on the lower screen can further increase the energy generation of the modules by the albedo effect. 3) Growing climate improvement. As the modules filter out the near infrared from the incoming sunlight, the plants underneath will experience a lower heat load. In turn one can expect a higher CO2 fertilization level mainly in spring and autumn, yielding to a greater agronomical yield.

Our communities have a wealth of ideas and initiative that need to be harnessed. Empowering them to lead the change they desire and to play an active part in its delivery can offer so many benefits. Participating in this groundbreaking program is an absolute honour. Looking outside the norm for ways to fund and enable such ideas and initiatives to come to fruition whilst equally shifting the power of our local people to invest in and play a more tangible part in bringing their ideas to fruition. It’s collaborative, it’s building local capacity and most importantly building a more resilient way to respond to our local needs and taking action. Win:win for everyone, wouldn’t you agree?

RurALL - Introducing our Lead Partner Project Team 🙋♀️ 🙋♂️   We are thrilled to introduce the passionate and dedicated team of Municipality of Beltinci. Team members: Simona Roudi (project coordinator/manager), Kristina Koter (project assistant), Matic Kuščer (project assistant), Štefan Činč (financial manager) and Dejan Bogdan - NAJprojekt (consultant). The team is supported by mayor of Municipality of Beltinci Marko Virag.   Municipality of Beltinci is located on the left bank of Mura River in the flat area of Prekmurje. The area of 62,3 km2 is populated by approximately 8100 people. The municipality has 8 settlements. Numerous natural attractions preserved nature and cultural heritage determine the municipality identity. Our motivation for developing the project and leading the RurALL Consortium:   Rural revitalization 🏠 We are driven by a desire to breathe new life into rural communities that have been affected by depopulation.   Innovation and Creativity 💡 The New European Bauhaus approach inspires us to think outside the box and embrace innovation and creativity in our efforts to transform rural spaces.   Community engagement 🏢 By engaging local residents, stakeholders, experts, and organizations in the planning and implementation process, we empower communities to shape their own future and take ownership of the project.   Cultural preservation 🎭 Older buildings are part of our history, culture, and identity.
