We recently hosted a discussion with healthcare experts on the impact AI can have on healthcare, particularly hospital operations and optimized patient flow. It was striking to learn how nurses in every corner of the world are always on the brink of burnout. It's like we have accepted that it simply comes with the job... About 43% of newly licensed nurses in hospitals quit within 3 years 🤯 They spent years studying nursing because they're interested in helping - not for the salaries - and then they quit! The answer is simple: working conditions are unacceptable. Obviously, working in a hospital can be very demanding and circumstances can be hard. But one of the main reasons for burnout is simply long working hours and frequently changing shift schedules, which can place serious demands on nurses. The cause of that is just poor planning. Optimizing patient flow and having clarity on short-term demand will allow for better organizational planning. That allows for better work scheduling, and a 'by-product' of that is improved nurse well-being. AI is helping tremendously with better operational planning in hospitals, and we'll see the various professions working in healthcare taking advantage of AI to improve efficiency and reduce burnout. AI will play a crucial role in streamlining workflows, predicting patient needs, and optimizing schedules. My long-term strategies for becoming a safe medication management practitioner include pursuing advanced training in medication management, going for higher education in nursing, seeking mentorship from experienced practitioners specialising in medication management, participating actively in research work for medication management, attending workshops or seminars for medication management and safety, becoming a mentor to new nurses in safe medication practices, developing a strong relationship with health workers involved and medication management, undergoing occasional self-assessment and reflection to identify areas of improvement, advocating for patients safety in medication management by reporting or addressing any safety concerns and lastly, prioritising self-care practices to maintain both physical and mental health and ensuring a health work-life balance.
