Today is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day, a day to honor and remember all the precious babies who were taken too soon. This day is especially important for Black mothers and families, who often face higher rates of pregnancy and infant loss due to systemic racism and healthcare disparities. According to statistics, Black women are two to three times more likely to experience pregnancy and infant loss compared to white women. This is unacceptable and is a direct result of systemic racism within our healthcare system. Black mothers in Delaware deserve better access to quality healthcare and support during their pregnancies to ensure the best possible outcomes for themselves and their babies. As we remember and honor the babies we have lost, let's also continue to advocate for better healthcare for Black mothers and families in Delaware. Despite being in 2023, many pregnant women still rely on advice from their mothers and mothers-in-law regarding pregnancy and child healthcare. While their wisdom holds value, it may not always align with today's lifestyle. For a healthy pregnancy, a fresh approach is essential, and that's precisely what we're dedicated to providing at the Maternal Health Coach Community. We guide pregnant women through every step, recognizing the significance of collaborative care. At Maternal Health Coach Community, we not only educate expectant mothers but also empower family members with essential knowledge, stressing the involvement of every family member. This period of pregnancy is undoubtedly one of the most challenging for expectant mothers, and collaborative care plays a significant role. Awareness is the key to empathy. Navigating High-Risk Pregnancies with a Helping Hand When life piles on challenges, finding the support you need can be life-changing. Shakeria Clark, a 29-year-old from North Carolina, faced unimaginable losses and adversity. Despite the odds, including food insecurity and unemployment, she found strength in a surprising source: high-risk pregnancy navigators. High-risk pregnancy navigators like Samantha Sharp are dedicated professionals who support expectant mothers throughout their journey. From arranging steady meals through local food pantries to securing programs like WIC, they ensure no mother has to face these challenges alone. Samantha even helps with essentials like transportation, meals, and diapers, so mothers can focus more on their health and well-being. The holistic support these navigators provide goes beyond medical care. They empower mothers to advocate for themselves and offer continuous emotional support. For Shakeria, this was the lifeline she needed, turning her fears and uncertainties into confidence and resilience. #MaternalHealth #PregnancySupport #CommunityCare

Approximately 12 million girls (15-19 years) and at least 777,000 girls under 15 years give birth each year in developing regions. Complications during pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death for 15-19-year-old girls globally. We must protect our adolescents from unintended pregnancies. Maternal Mental Health Month is an important moment to call attention to the challenges mothers around the world face before and after pregnancy. At least one in five women experiences mental health concerns during pregnancy and after childbirth, but most go untreated. Black women face a higher chance of developing perinatal mood disorders compared to white women. And, they're less likely to receive treatment, in part due to stigma and fear of being judged unfit. One of your girlfriends, sisters, or cousins could be suffering without you ever knowing. We must continue to break the stigma in order to drive better outcomes for mothers.
