In April, the U.S. DOT finalized a regulation requiring auto manufacturers to include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) in all light duty vehicles by 2029. AEB is one of many advanced driver assistance technologies developed over the past eight years to enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety. This past month the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents most of the auto manufacturers, is requesting federal regulators to revisit the new regulation guidelines. While they support AEB, they feel meeting the new enhanced standards will be difficult and could even be problematic for drivers.
