The Norwegian Army has conducted its first live-fire test of the Piorun man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). This modern weapon, capable of targeting drones, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft, is now operationally deployed in Finnmark, with plans to expand its use. The Piorun system serves as a potent deterrent, forcing adversaries to reconsider violating Norwegian airspace. The initial contract, signed in November 2022 between the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (NDMA) and the Polish defense company Mesko, secured Piorun systems valued at approximately NOK 350 million. Deliveries began in early 2023, marking the integration of a crucial layer in Norway’s multi-tiered air defense network. The NDMA’s comprehensive air defense strategy focuses on defending against aerial threats across a range of altitudes and distances. The Piorun system covers the lowest level of air defense, effectively launching heat-seeking missiles at threats from the ground up to 4,000 meters in altitude. This weapon complements Norway’s existing tactical air defense systems and is a valuable addition alongside the Norwegian Air Force’s NASAMS networked short- to medium-range ground-based air defense systems and F-35A stealth multirole combat aircrafts. Together, these systems form a robust defense network that will challenge any future adversary with a variety of countermeasures. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gUSXTm_r

From Ukraine to Taiwan, jamming of 50-year-old GPS is a defense tech nightmare - Breaking Defense As warfare becomes more high-tech and billions continue to be invested into smart weapons, an Achilles’ heel has emerged in America’s defense capabilities – the 50-year-old GPS L1 signal. GPS L1 interference is happening in conflict zones around the world and is thwarting even the most advanced weapons on the battlefield. In Ukraine, Russian forces are jamming American weapons, including drones and missiles that rely on GPS, a major blow to Ukraine’s counteroffensive. This interference isn’t limited to the battlefield. Russia is also accused of interfering with civilian aircraft GPS systems throughout Eastern Europe, as evident in more than 40,000 flights experiencing navigation issues over a six-month period. GPS interference is also taking place in and around other conflict zones in the Middle East. However, what is most worrying are experts’ concerns about the resilience of GPS in the event of any potential Chinese escalation around Taiwan. China has increased its military activities around the island in recent years and its warships are accused of interfering with civilian airplanes’ GPS systems throughout the Asia Pacific. GPS jamming is already being used as a weapon in today’s wars and we should be prepared for it to be used in the conflicts of tomorrow. https://lnkd.in/gCKmTkxp

The German Air Force (Luftwaffe) has begun the deployment of its advanced air defense system, the IRIS-T SLM (Infra-Red Imaging System–Tail/Thrust Vector-Controlled, Surface-Launched Medium Range). Developed by Diehl Defence in collaboration with international partners, this state-of-the-art system has already proven its capabilities in Ukraine, where it is being used in live operations. In a formal ceremony attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, the first unit of the IRIS-T SLM system was handed over to troops in Todendorf, Schleswig-Holstein. The deployment of additional units will follow in the coming years. With the achievement of Initial Operational Capability (IOC), the Luftwaffe has significantly increased its air defense capabilities both in quality and speed. The IRIS-T SLM system includes radar and command elements, multiple launchers for IRIS-T missiles, a mobile maintenance component, and a transport vehicle for reloading launch containers. This versatile system is capable of engaging hostile aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones at altitudes of up to 20 kilometers and at ranges of 40 kilometers. Germany plans to acquire six systems by 2027, which will serve as a key component of its future modular air defense strategy, supplementing the existing Patriot missile systems. The growing threat from the air, highlighted by Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, has emphasized the need for comprehensive ground-based air defenses to protect Germany, its population, and critical infrastructure such as power plants, ports, and bridges. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gZ7Z7fAc

Burns and explodes: those are the most expensive losses of the occupying army. The war in Ukraine costs Russia $100 billion per year. Over more than 800 days of war, the terrorist country’s losses in military equipment (without UAVs, cruise missiles and automotive equipment) are approaching 40 thousand units. The cost of some types of this equipment reaches hundreds of millions of dollars per unit. Top most expensive losses of the occupying army 💥 SAM The honorable first place goes to the S-400 Triumph air defense system, demilitarized in the spring of 2024 in Dzhankoy. It cost Russia $1.2 billion. 🚢 Ships The total cost of destroyed ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet (excluding small boats of the Raptor or Serna type) is approximately $1.65 billion. In this class , the cruiser Moskva confidently holds the lead. The cost of the current Ukrainian underwater cultural heritage site No. 2064 was estimated at $750 million. “Silver” went to the submarine “ Rostov-on-Don ” ($570 million), which received serious damage in September 2023 in the dry dock of Sevmorzavod. The large landing craft Tsezar Kunikov , Olenegorsky Gornyak , Minsk and Novocherkassk cost $110 million each. 🛩 Aircraft The most expensive losses in the sky were the A-50 long-range radar aircraft. Their cost is estimated at $300-500 million. One was damaged at the airfield in Machulishchi , and two were shot down over the Sea of Azov and the Krasnodar Territory . In April 2024, over the Stavropol Territory, the Ukrainian air defense forces, with the assistance of the Main Intelligence Directorate, landed a Tu-22M3 bomber worth $300 million. Another Tu-22M was hit in the summer of 2023 at the Soltsy airfield. 📡 electronic warfare In the fall of 2023, the Ukrainian Armed Forces deprived the Russians of the Borisoglebsk-2 electronic warfare system, the cost of which is estimated at $200 million. 💥 SAM A few months later, the S-350 Vityaz anti-aircraft missile system, which costs about $135 million, was successfully disposed of.

It's amazing to see the technology of the world's most sophisticated air defense system protecting Israel, but what's even more important is the strong mentality and readiness approach of the Israeli people. Last night, our production Airforce mitigation systems successfully mitigated Iran’s 185 UAV drones, 36 cruise missiles, and 110 ground-to-ground ballistic missiles. With over 330 attacks inside Israel, this has been the biggest attack on our country in history, yet nobody was killed and there were zero casualties. Israel's air defense system is called the Iron Dome. It uses advanced radar and missile interceptors to detect and neutralize incoming threats such as rockets, artillery, and mortars. The system is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 km to 70 km away. The Iron Dome is highly effective, with a success rate of over 90% in intercepting incoming threats. During dark times, we see the light of opportunity in partnering with our friend countries and allies to sell and protect them from future threats as well. #Israel #AirDefense #irondome #Security #Opportunity #Safety

The Czech Air Force successfully deployed the ELM-2084 MMR/MADR (Mobile Air Defence Radar) during the recent Ramstein Guard exercise. This marked the first operational use of the Israeli-manufactured MADR system. The exercise saw participation from nearly all units of the Czech Air Force alongside NATO allies, engaging in scenarios designed to simulate heavy electronic jamming. The new MADR system demonstrated its effectiveness by detecting and tracking aircraft despite extensive electronic interference, outperforming both former Soviet and advanced Czech radar systems. In December 2019, the Czech Republic signed an intergovernmental contract with Israel, valued at CZK 3.5 billion, for the acquisition of eight ELM-2084 MMR systems. These advanced radars, delivered by ELTA Systems Ltd, are intended to replace outdated Russian-made radar technology, providing comprehensive air situation awareness at low and medium altitudes. Five of these radars will be stationed at fixed military sites, contributing to the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS), while the remaining three will protect strategic national objectives and critical infrastructure. Interesting report two days ago out of Bulgaria on Russian A-50 radar aircraft, similar to our AWACS (but far less capable). The report claims the A-50 is being successful in targeting Ukraine. Using its airborne radar. Today over the Sea of Azov, an A-50 decided to join the Russian submarine fleet after being greeted by a Patriot missile. A-50 pilots should learn to stop smoking on planes, and to stop flying anywhere near Ukraine. The A-50 is estimated to cost $330 million USD. Russia only has a handful of these. Likely less than 10. It is also reported another bomber, IL-22, has opted to join the underwater Russian fleet. The fastest growing division in the Russian military. This also is very expensive and rare. Likely fewer than 10. So on one day Ukraine has taken out 10% of Russia’s radar aircraft and bombers. And these successful attacks will force Russia to change their strategy and tactics to bomb civilians. And after recently taking out 20% of Russia’s Black Sea fleet.
