There are many steps on our way to net zero - some smaller, some larger - and our favourite ones are our local initiatives that combine fun and education with a green effort. One of these is our local climate initiative down at the Grolman UK offices, where we organised a litter pick with the local primary school in the lovely grounds of Caldicot castle. We had 26 young, enthusiastic and very competitive 10-year olds keen to skip an afternoon’s lessons and run wildly round the park armed with gloves, litter pickers and plastic bags on a mild sunny November afternoon. We used this opportunity to talk about sustainability, especially in the chemical industry, and explained that neither chemicals nor plastic were inherently evil - giving some examples of cases, where plastic is the least CO2-intensive solution, as long as its recycled and reused correctly and not irresponsibly disposed of. In fact Wales has one of the best track records in Europe for its coherent collection and recycling policies. The efforts of the kids on the litter pick certainly helped promote this issue. #startsmall #miniheros #localsustainability
