The reuse revolution is happening across Europe, so what can the UK learn from it to lead its own transition away from single-use? In this article on The Grocer, our CEO Jane Martin makes the case for bold action. While Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) will help in tackling single-use packaging crisis, we must go further. Cross-industry collaboration can make reusable packaging mainstream, unlocking business benefits like better logistics, consumer insights, and cost savings. And with the circular economy expected to create 700,000 jobs in the EU, the UK has a huge opportunity to lead. We need strong government policy and industry-wide standardisation to drive this shift. Let’s make reuse the norm, not the exception. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dBdJaiZs #ReuseRevolution #RefillReturn #CircularEconomy #SustainabilityLeadership

We’re still reflecting on the incredible success of the Global Reuse Summit – a landmark event that brought together policymakers, business leaders, and innovators to drive real change in the reuse economy. 🌎 The message from the summit was clear: the time for experimentation is over – it’s time to take reuse seriously. As Dr. Debbie Fletcher FCIWM put it, “The experimental phase is done.” Key Takeaways from the Summit: 🔹 Collaboration is critical. This shift isn’t just about cutting packaging waste — it’s an opportunity to innovate, create quality jobs, and reduce pollution. 🔹 Long-term roadmaps, not short-term fixes. James Bull reinforced the importance of setting a clear vision. We need to signpost what the future of reuse is going to be, even if it takes 5 to 10 years to achieve it, rather than focusing on short-term, year-on-year strategies. 🔹 Policy must support reuse infrastructure. Celia Rennesson 🌎highlighted the French model, where 5% of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees are allocated to reuse infrastructure and communications — a model other countries could follow. 🔹 Data drives scale. Lowelle Bryan emphasised that standardisation and measurement are key. The more we learn from data, the better we can refine reuse models at scale. 🔹 Optimism fuels change. Margaret Heffernan reminded us that “Change must happen with optimism and enthusiasm.” More than 1000 of us took part in the event, in person and online. People tuned in from as far as Australia, Kenya, Indonesia and the US, demonstrating the urgent need to move away from single-use culture, into a reuse future. A huge thank you to We The Curious for hosting us, with stunning views over Bristol Harbourside, and to our headline partner Ecosurety for keeping the conversations going post-summit. If you couldn’t make it this year, don’t worry — we’ve put together a short highlights reel to share some of the best moments.
