🏛️ Archaeology isn't just about digging up relics; it's about piecing together the puzzle of our past, uncovering civilizations, and preserving cultural heritage. However, behind every excavation site and preservation effort lies a crucial factor: funding. I remember when I was interviewing Dr. Victor Sava, I asked questions about the fortification, and too often, his answer was, "We don't know yet; we don't have enough funding to find that out." One of my favorite aspects of the "Santana Cetatea Veche" documentary still remains the part about the reality of conducting an archaeological excavation. #Archaeology #documentary

Unearthing Humanity: Conversation as Reverse Archaeology ⛏️ In archaeology, we meticulously dig through layers of earth to uncover the stories of the past. But there's another way to unearth the richness of human experience. Conversation. Conversation, in many ways, is a form of reverse archaeology. We delve into the minds of others, adding another layer of dialog while extracting another layer of history, learning more with each question and response. We brush away the surface-level pleasantries to uncover the values, beliefs, and experiences that make people who they are. Through conversation, we uncover hidden artifacts from a person's life and history, we 'carbon date' our assumptions, challenge our own biases and preconceived notions to allow for different narratives and perspectives, and finally, we piece together the puzzle of a person's life, by adjoining the things that make them who they are. Archaeologists uncover 3,000-year-old ceremonial temple in Peru Archaeologists in Peru have uncovered an early temple phase at the Rurupa Ceremonial Temple complex, in the Anco Huallo-Uripa district of the Chincheros province in the Apurímac department. The temple’s origins date back to approximately 3,000 years ago, with evidence suggesting it served as a central hub for ritual activities during the Middle Formative Period (1000 – 800 BCE). Excavations reveal a multi-phase construction, with the initial phase characterized by a rectangular platform and three structures, one of which contained a sacrificial guinea pig on a rectangular altar. What sets this discovery apart is the architectural style, plastered in white and adorned with various colors of pigment...
