ABSTRACT :"We investigate a new regime of inertial Alfvén wave turbulence observed in the very low beta plasma of the auroral ionosphere using electric and magnetic field measurements by the TRICE-2 sounding rocket. Combining the observed features of the electric and magnetic field frequency spectra with the linear properties of inertial Alfvén waves, we deduce the path of the anisotropic turbulent cascade through wave vector space. We find a critically balanced cascade through the magnetohydrodynamic scales of the inertial range down to the perpendicular scale of the plasma skin depth, followed by a parallel cascade to the ion inertial length. 5/2/2024 Our local Solaris has become very active again releasing 11 C Class Solar Flares and 3 more M Class Flare with two coming in at M 2.77 , one at 1:57 PM PST and the next at 5:15 PM PST. https://lnkd.in/eUECfW2 (spaceweather.com) DOUBLE CME STRIKE (UPDATED): Two CMEs struck Earth's magnetic field on May 2nd. Individually, the impacts were minor, but together they sparked a strong G3-class geomagnetic storm with auroras as far south as Washington in the USA. Another CME is expected to sideswipe Earth's magnetic field on May 4th. 

Generated by powerful, dynamic forces at the center of our world, our magnetosphere shields us from erosion of our atmosphere by the solar wind (charged particles our Sun continually spews at us), erosion and particle radiation from coronal mass ejections (massive clouds of energetic and magnetized solar plasma and radiation), and cosmic rays from deep space. Our magnetosphere plays the role of gatekeeper, repelling this unwanted energy that’s harmful to life on Earth, trapping most of it a safe distance from Earth’s surface in twin doughnut-shaped zones called the Van Allen Belts. https://lnkd.in/gkf48Bfu
