💉 𝑫𝒓𝒖𝒈-𝑫𝒓𝒖𝒈 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 💉 🥊 One significant interaction to consider is between meropenem, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and valproic acid, a medication commonly used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏? ⬆️ Meropenem significantly reduces the serum levels of valproic acid. ❕️This occurs because meropenem increases the clearance of valproic acid from the body, thereby decreasing its concentration in the blood. 💊 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 🌟 For patients relying on valproic acid for seizure control, this interaction can lead to subtherapeutic levels of the drug, resulting in increased seizure activity or loss of seizure control, we can consider changing thr antibiotic to another agent as per the culture and susceptibility results of the microorganism.

Sucralfate Sucralfate forms a protective coat and protects the gastric mucosa from pepsin, pectic acid, and bile salts. This drug binds to positively charged proteins in exudates, locally forming a thick viscous substance. Brands available Ulsanic Surlka Ulcocid Mechanism of Action Sucralfate prevents hydrolysis by preventing the enzyme-substrate complex formation. This drug adsorbs pepsin and decreases its concentration. Clinical uses Sucralfate is a drug used to treat various medical conditions including duodenal ulcers, epithelial wounds, chemotherapy-induced mucositis Radiation proctitis Ulcers in Behçet disease.

More studies are needed in @lupus @SLE @Sjogrens and other patients who take mycophenolate mofetil and mycophenolic acid. Docs: Don't forget PPIs decrease the bioavailability of mycophenolate mofetil by as much as around 25%; consider using mycophenolic acid if you must use a PPI
