𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬. Today, we can predict with increasing confidence the occurrence and humanitarian impact of certain climatic shocks. By combining different analytical approaches, out-of-the-ordinary weather events can not only be predicted, but their projected humanitarian impact can proactively be mitigated based on pre-identified anticipatory actions. Building on growing evidence that acting prior to the onset of a predictable, severe hazard is significantly more (cost-)effective than traditional humanitarian response, United Nations OCHA is facilitating the setup of multiple collective #anticipatoryaction frameworks that, upon being activated, are implemented with funds allocated from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). The framework for storms in #Bangladesh was designed by humanitarian partners under the leadership of the Resident Coordinator, with support from OCHA. The framework was endorsed by the Resident Coordinator in September 2023 and the Emergency Relief Coordinator in December 2023, and is valid for a period of two years. Read more about the framework 👇

Coordinated assessments enable the pooling of resources and expertise from multiple actors. This can lead to more efficient resource allocation, as duplication of efforts and gaps in coverage can be minimized. By leveraging the strengths and capacities of different actors, resources can be targeted where they are most needed, maximizing the impact of humanitarian and development interventions. #Global_Education_Cluster_Core_Coordination_Core2_Training #Sparkea_Education_Cluster #Yemen_Education_Cluster #AdenHub

"Our evidence supports a requirement for full transparency, from the involvement of local communities in the collection of hazard data, the development of/and agreement on triggers for the release of anticipatory funding and aid, and the identification of vulnerable populations for receiving aid." In a chapter from Current and Emerging Trends in the Management of International Disasters we hear from Oenone C. Josh Ayers Kazi Amdadul Hoque on how localised and contextualised early warning systems contribute to humanitarian response through anticipatory action. 📚 https://lnkd.in/dhNk48Mt

"Connectivity, both the presence and absence of it, has profound implication in crisis settings". This is the first sentence of the study 'Connectivity in Crisis' just published by GSMA. The humanitarian implications are manifold: from risks related to the protection of populations, to the coordination of humanitarian operations, to autonomy capabilities, are at the heart of this analysis. And communication capabilities, especially mobile, are the first to be disrupted during armed conflicts, with major impacts on populations and humanitarian operations. Thanks to GSMA for consulting the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC for their study. https://lnkd.in/eB-baPRG

SHIFTING OUR PURPOSE: We seek to create a decentralised, locally-led, and collaborative humanitarian system. To achieve such a large-scale system change, we drive shifts that put aid action in the hands of local organisations. Our purpose comes from combining our vision, mission, and values to build a more accountable humanitarian aid model that answers to the people most affected and at risk of crises.
