This is how an investment in tech can save money and time

Midsummer Place in Milton Keynes will soon be welcoming two new exciting additions to its line up: Frasers Group's Sports Direct and Lane7. Sports Direct will offer a wide range of sports and lifestyle brands in their 50,000 sq ft store, while Lane 7 will bring their unique entertainment concept to the 40,000 sq ft space.   This expansion and repurposing of space further solidifies Midsummer Place as a top destination for fashion and entertainment, with both brands adding to the diverse mix of current retailers and F&B offerings.   Simon Anderson, Asset Manager at Ellandi “Securing both Frasers Group’s Sports Direct, and Lane 7 for Midsummer Place demonstrates both confidence in the market as well as highlighting the opportunity at Midsummer Place. “The difference between the paddlesports market and other outdoor goods, according to John, is people bought high-end paddlesports products during the pandemic. They had more disposable income, so they bought $5,000 fishing kayaks like the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14. “Where does that leave us for an upgrade?” John said. “That’s part of the saturation problem.” Such a valid point. If possible, brands should be designing and building systems that are modular and can scale equal to where the consumer is in their outdoor journey while staying one step ahead of them ready to meet them again at their next growth stage of experience. New Product Innovation and Design has to be thinking how to strengthen the consumer/retailer relationship, this is 2024, think versatility, longevity, multi-functionality…think platform. Retail has been reinventing itself for a while now, and one might even say it is more of a reincarnation post-Pandemic. This Atlantic piece highlights an over-the-top Bass Pro Shop. #Consumers want something consumable or experiential when they venture into a #Retail establishment. This could be #samples or a #demonstration. It might also be an in-store only gift with purchase (that is how #POPshelf got me to put on shoes and get in the car to drive 1.2 miles - well-played) Or in the case of Bass Pro Shop, it could consist of being whisked away into a parallel universe, an adventure of sights and sounds.

London Designer Outlet’s 10th year saw it break its own performance records across 9 of the 12 months, whilst high street destinations continued to battle the ups and downs of shifting consumer priorities in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.    After a stellar golden quarter performance that saw a best-ever Black Friday, Christmas week, and best year to date, Daniel Tomkinson, General Manager, London Designer Outlet and Matthew Slade, Retail Director at Quintain Limited, spoke with Liz Hamson at BE News to reflect on the successes of the last decade, year, and what’s to come.    Around 28% of brands have been at the LDO since the start. Speaking about the impressive retention rates, Daniel said: “The reason brands stay is really quite simple: they see incredible success at their LDO stores and the value that a presence at our outlet can offer, with a number of our partners reporting them as their best-performing thanks to the combination of our brand mix and discounted prices.” Discussing what’s to come in the next 10 years, Matt said: “The main aim for us is to build on the great success we’ve had in the past year by keeping customer wants and needs at the core of all the decisions and moves we make. “We’re very insight-led, so we know what challenges our shoppers are facing. The reports of the death of American malls may have been premature #malls #retail The American mall is evolving. Department stores are struggling to compete against new online direct-to-consumer competitors and smaller brick-and-mortar retailers. Top-tier malls are replacing department stores with grocery stores, casinos, gyms, ice skating rinks, and, in some cases, even residential apartments. Mall traffic has bounced back to near pre-pandemic occupancy levels, with customers embracing the experience-focused model. However, lower-tier malls are feeling the effects of department store closures more acutely.

2023 was a landmark year at Merry Hill. The centre is truly transforming. 2024 is set to be another huge year. Here's the detail... During 2023 65 leasing deals completed, covering a total of more than 330,000 sq ft. The 65 deals represented more than 30% of Merry Hill’s units and included the opening of 30 new brands at the destination, including retailer Nike Unite, leisure operator and anchor brand Hollywood Bowl Group Plc, and the first-ever Sides restaurant outside of London. We also had the signings of Harvey Norman and Xtrafit, which will both open later this year, re-anchoring the former Debenhams space and providing exciting, new options for our customers.    Customers are responding too... Merry Hill experienced an increase in sales, with 2023 exceeding 2022 by 7%, and December sales up 6.5% year-on-year, with footfall rising by 9.4% over the 12 month period.   #MerryHill #2023performance #WestMidlands #retailmarketing #placebranding
