TEST CAMP INTRALOGISTICS panel warehouse trucks: Hydrogene - game changer or show stopper? Some interesting statements and theses during the panel hosted by IFOY juror Peter MacLeod 🇪🇺 Lithium-ion is still cheaper - and hydrogene will be needed in high volumes by industries like the chemical industry. Florian Kraus (Jungheinrich AG) I am pretty sure that we will see more green hydrogene use cases in the future. Dr. Bernhard Wienk-Borgert (GLOBE Fuel Cell Systems) Three shift uses cases can be an interesting business case for hydrogene. Of course companies have to have a critical mass, too. Let us stay open minded developing different technologies - of course, we have to find the right business cases and applications. Prof. Johannes Fottner (Technische Universität München) We should talk more about the chances than the limitations. Lithium-ion will be the dominant technology in the coming five years. But that should not stop us from working on green hydrogene use cases. Dr. Florian Heydenreich (STILL GmbH) #testcampintralogistics #ifoy #materialhandling #sustainability #hydrogene

A new project called PoWer is exploring how hydrogen engines can be used across construction and agriculture equipment. Led by MAHLE, the project brings together vehicle/engine manufacturers, suppliers, and researchers to fully unlock the potential of hydrogen for off-highway applications. DEUTZ AG has already developed a production-ready #hydrogenengine and is contributing their expertise. sjn.com/pr::1732635536

“CNH and TU Wien reveal #hydrogenpoweredtractor “ 18th August 2024 - John Sleigh “Engineers at the CNH #tractorplant in St Valentin and TU Wien have unveiled a #hydrogenfuelcell powered STEYR concept #tractor .” “Based on a standard STEYR 4140 tractor it uses approximately 15kg to 16kg of dry #biomass to produce #hydrogen equivalent to around 3.5l of #diesel . The power unit only emits #watervapour , while maintaining the power needed for demanding #agricultural work.” “It is equipped with a 14 kWh #highvoltagebattery which develops 95 kW, matching its #diesel counterpart. The #fuelcell and #electricdrivesystems replace the #dieselengine , and the fuel tank is substituted with a #compressedhydrogenstoragesystem and #battery .” https://lnkd.in/eJVdmZ6G Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

“#HYDROGENMOBILITY High-Tech #EcoFriendly #Ship Market, Such as #HydrogenShip Research and Development, 'Jeong-Jo-Joon'” Fuel Cells Works - December 30, 2024 “HJ Heavy Industries announced on the 30th that it has obtained approval for the design concept (Approval in Principle) for an 88,000㎥ super-large eco-friendly #ammonia carrier (#VLAC) from Lloyd's Shipment (LR) in the UK.” “HJ Heavy Industries explained, "Based on our technology accumulated through research and development of eco-friendly ships such as #LNG DF (#dualfuel) and #methanol -powered #containerships , we have been certified for the basic and structural design of 88,000㎥ super-sized ammonia carriers that meet all design load conditions required by the ship." “Ammonia is a #cleanalternativefuel without #carbondioxideemissions and is attracting attention as a suitable #shipfuel for the #carbonfree era along with #hydrogen . In particular, orders for ships using ammonia as the main fuel, including #ammoniacarriers , are expected to increase steadily as the #InternationalMaritimeOrganization (#IMO) formalizes its "net-zero" drive aimed at achieving #zerocarbonemissions for #ships by 2050.” Source: https://lnkd.in/e-CjZRxz https://lnkd.in/eUb_XkVi Source- original post Read all my posts #MariusPreston

Converting solid-organic waste into syngas for power production typically relies on fossil fuels, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. 💨 Drs. Jacob Chung, James Trainham, and Herbert Ingley in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida have pioneered a groundbreaking steam gasification process that uses biogas from anaerobic digestion, opening the route to syngas production without fossil fuels. This cutting-edge approach not only makes syngas production greener and more efficient, but also opens up new possibilities for generating power, synthetic fuels, and chemicals from everyday waste. ♻️ License this #GatorMade new tech here ▶️ https://lnkd.in/e2YZMnuH

This was certainly one of the more interesting research projects that I've had the opportunity to work on! Through a series of surveys and in-depth interviews with both fuel suppliers and ship operators, we gained valuable insights into a key question: How prepared will the container ship sector be to adopt e-fuels between 2027 and 2030? Our analysis went beyond just vessels currently on order to include those under consideration. We also engaged with e-fuel producers to better understand the hurdles they face in reaching Final Investment Decision (FID) - only 15% of the projects we discussed are either operational or under construction. To answer the adoption question fully, we need to break it down by each fuel type: ➡ e-methane: there are now many methane (LNG) powered vessels but the supply of e-methane appears to be the limiting factor ➡ e-ammonia: the production is projected to grow exponentially over the next 5 years, but there are a limited number of potential ammonia-powered container ships (at least by 2027) ➡ e-methanol: this holds a strong position, with both growing fuel production and capable vessels. Although, as a caveat, it’s likely to rely on biogenic CO2 for the near future, as Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology is not expected to reach economic viability for at least another five years. Of course, the landscape of maritime decarbonisation is evolving rapidly. However, hopefully these insights offer a valuable snapshot to guide initiatives like ZEMBA in shaping the future adoption of these fuels. A big thank you to all the participants who contributed to this study!
