In my weekly reading on medical updates on recent research, this one caught my attention: Have you ever wondered where the idea of 10,000 steps/ day came from and if it really makes a difference? Here are some recent answers. Movement is included in everyone’s treatment plan. Movement is vital, I believe to health. In helps with mood affects multiple system: cardiovascular, lymphatic. For some it helps their bowels stay more regular. I recommend everyone watch this video titled 23 and ½ hours on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/e7x8YQzd 10,000 Steps? Ten thousand steps a day. The magic number that's said to optimize health and longevity. How did they come up with that? Turns out the 10,000-step goal is rooted more in marketing vs. science It started in 1965 in Tokyo, Japan, where a company released an early step counter, calling it manpo-kei — or "10,000 steps meter." The marketing suggested this number of steps would reduce the risk for heart disease. How Many Steps Make a Difference? Today we know that health benefits kick in long before 10,000 steps. But just how many daily steps do you need? Walk with us and find out… Just 2500 steps, or about a mile, are enough to begin reducing your risk of dying of cardiovascular disease. For every extra 500 steps — or one lap around a standard track — you lower that risk by another 7%. Roughly 4000 steps helps reduce the risk for early death from any cause. At 6000 steps, you may lower your risk for type 2 diabetes, particularly if you're an older woman. Add 500 more, 6500 steps, may lower your blood pressure. Pass 8000 steps to lower your risk for obesity, sleep apnea, and depression. At 9800 steps, you may reduce your risk of developing dementia by 50%. Now you've made it to 10,000 steps. But what happens if you keep going? At 10,500 steps, your risk of dying of cardiovascular disease may be 77% lower than it was at 2500 steps. At 11,000 steps, you've lowered your risk for hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity, and sleep apnea by 25%-50% more than at 6000 steps. And at 11,500 steps, the risk for early death may be 67% lower than it was at 4000 steps. The average American takes 4800 steps a day. We dare you to do better. Because every step counts. Mood As many have discovered, movement is one of the best anti-depressants out there. A mere 2 days after I graduated from medical school, my beloved golden retriever, Sweet Gypsy, died. She was my sidekick and I was DEVASTATED. My friends knew the best thing for me was to get outside and MOVE. So we did a challenging hike. That was appropriate for me at the time. It shifted my mood dramatically. I wonder how many steps that hike was!! Have you "stepped" into the office for a winter tuneup? We hope to see you soon. Dr. Angela & Lisa

Embrace a Healthier You in the New Year! Despite our best intentions, most of us will start giving up on New Year’s resolutions within a month. Before you give up, take a moment to reflect on how much you prioritise your well-being, and what can be done to understand your health status. 🔍 **Why Health Assessments Matter:** Taking charge of your health begins with awareness. Regular health assessments provide valuable insights into your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. 📢 Exciting News! 🎉 Thrilled to announce the publication of our latest medical article alongside the esteemed Dr. Callum Leese & Dr Blair Smith! 📄✨ Our article explores whether tackling a single lifestyle intervention or simultaneous interventions is more impactful. There is an escalating global burden of lifestyle-related diseases, which significantly contribute to chronic conditions and premature mortality. Despite the proven benefits of lifestyle interventions targeting physical inactivity, nutrition, alcohol, and smoking, these are still underutilised in primary healthcare settings. We delve into the intricate interrelations of these lifestyle factors, exploring effective strategies for integrating multiple interventions. What did we find? While simultaneous approaches for physical activity and nutrition show promise, smoking cessation might benefit from a sequential strategy. We also advocate for a holistic framework that includes sleep, mental well-being, and social connectedness, aligning with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations. The evidence on delivering these interventions together is limited, underscoring the need for further research and clinical guidance. To overcome barriers in primary care, innovative solutions such as using non-medical personnel, social prescribers, and health coaches, along with group consultations, are critical. Join us in exploring these vital strategies for promoting healthy lifestyles and improving global health outcomes! 🌍❤️ #MedicalResearch #PublicHealth #LifestyleMedicine #HealthyLiving #PrimaryCare #InnovationInHealthcare #ChronicDiseasePrevention #HealthAndWellbeing #NewPublication #Teamwork 👉 Read more. 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 Patients dealing with diabetes, obesity, and other lifestyle diseases face two significant hurdles in potentially leading better lives: 🔍 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: • Many patients lack comprehensive understanding and resources to manage their condition effectively. • Misinformation and myths often hinder proper disease management. 💪 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: • Initial progress often follows a parabolic trend, with improvements tapering off due to various factors. • Common reasons for this decline include: Changes in routine 📅 (e.g., travel, work schedule changes), One-time events 🎉 (e.g., holidays, celebrations), Increased stress 😰 (e.g., work pressure, personal issues) 🌀 In almost every research on these diseases that I have read on these diseases, patient journey follows a Parabolic Progress Curve - Patient adherence improves initially but tends to decline over time, bringing them closer or back to square one. 🧑🏫 Most digital health companies employ coaches to chase after patients and ensure adherence: • While effective in the short term, this method raises questions about sustainability and scalability. • Coaches provide personalized support, motivation, and accountability, but can they be the sole solution, especially when these coach-led programs cost ₹2000 and upwards a month? 🧩 Potential Solutions: • Incorporating behavioral psychology techniques to build sustainable habits • Leveraging technology for personalized, real-time feedback and support • Creating community support systems to foster a sense of belonging and shared goals • Developing engaging, gamified health programs to maintain interest and motivation 🔍 What do you believe can foster long-term motivation and better habit-building? Share your thoughts below! #Healthcare #LifestyleDiseases #Diabetes #Obesity #DigitalHealth #PatientCare #Motivation #HabitBuilding

Of course, here at Preamble, we already believe that preventative health isn't just a choice but a strategy that saves and transforms lives, but we also needed to hear it said back to us loud and clear from the market, just to make sure. We kept our recent survey simple and straightforward, hoping to glean some open honesty from people about how they really felt their health was being managed and helped. And the results suggest a real desire for more personalized and technology-integrated preventative health services. Of the 380 people we surveyed: 68% stress the need for health plans tailored to individual genetics and lifestyle. 90% believe preventative measures are more cost-effective than treatment. 78% would make lifestyle changes if given insights based on unique biomarkers. We knew we were doing the right thing, but it didn’t hurt to check. More to come on this topic and our findings coming soon! #PreventativeHealth #HealthcareInnovation #PersonalizedMedicine
