In our latest #PeopleMakeRoofing interview, David and I had an insightful conversation with Greg Hayne, Chief Innovation Officer at Hayne Coaching Group, Inc. Greg shared a story from one of his peer groups that left us all stunned. A roofing contractor was spending $1,000,000 on salaries and commissions for his salespeople, yet allocated ZERO dollars towards hiring the right talent to actually grow his business. Greg's poignant question still resonates: "You're spending a million dollars to get people to hire you, but no money to hire the people you need to grow your business?" This equation doesn't make sense. Investing in the right people, placing them in the right roles, and ensuring they fit culturally should be the priority. When you focus on hiring top talent, you not only drive business growth but also improve efficiency, innovation, and employee retention. A solid team foundation leads to better client satisfaction and long-term success. During our #PeopleMakeRoofing interview, Charles Antis said something that really resonated with me. "At Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, I want everyone to see themselves higher, I want to invest in them." "People are craving purpose, more than they ever have, and in the roofing industry we have it, WE are the ones that provide that basic need of shelter, WE are the ones that keep families safe and dry." In my talks and webinars on winning the talent war, I mention employer branding quite a lot and it's one of they key's to retaining talent, by giving them people that mission, something that they are all collectively working towards, really creates that environment that people don't want to leave.
