Today was a significant day at both of our manufacturing locations as we came together to observe and celebrate Rail R U OK?. This initiative is more than just an annual event; it's a year-round commitment to fostering a supportive and caring environment in the workplace. At voestalpine Railway Systems, we understand the importance of mental health and the role it plays in the safety and well-being of our teams. Rail R U OK? Day serves as a powerful reminder that we all have a part to play in looking out for each other. Our activities today included team discussions focusing on how to recognize the often subtle signs that someone might be struggling. We also shared resources and tools that can help us all become better listeners and more supportive colleagues. A huge thank you to everyone who participated. Your openness and solidarity are what make our community strong and resilient. Together, we can continue to break down the stigmas surrounding mental health and ensure that no one has to face tough times alone. As the train moves faster, more energy is stored and increases the wheel lift and displacement of coaches in collision.   With Green Buffers, we make the necessary soft initiation of the first crash zones during time of impact, followed by the multi-step characteristics of energy absorption, similar to what the automotive industry is already using. The crash system improves the controlled energy balance by optimizing the available collapsing stroke in each interface.   The system is easy to mechanically upgrade on non-crash-proof and limited crash-proof trains and of course easy to implement on new trains. Quick and easy replacement of the dedicated elements (Strenx®) after accidents reduces the total cost of ownership of the trains through reduced repair costs and downtime for trains and tracks. Dutch shipping company Longship has received Longera, the first of four ultra-low-emission, diesel-electric general cargo ships from Türkiye’s Atlas Shipyard, on June 25, 2024. This delivery culminates three years of dedicated research and development in pursuit of fleet sustainability. Longera, the first of four 8,600 dwt newbuilds ordered in January last year, boasts a cutting-edge diesel-electric propulsion system that cuts consumption by about 45% compared to similar ships and meets EU Stage V standards for non-road mobile machinery. The vessel is also methanol-ready as a hybrid alternative. Promising Pilot Project 🇩🇰🇪🇺🇳🇴 In early 2025, we're launching the new, eco-friendly connection from #Europe, through Hirtshals, bound for Norway. 💡 An example: Compared to trucks, a single trailer on a #freight train already saves 1,600 kg of CO2 on the Duisburg-Hirtshals route (800 km). 🔀 This new corridor is particularly appealing for intermodal transportation. The prime location of the Hirtshals terminal, adjacent to the ferry port, further emphasizes its suitability: Trailers unloaded from the train are directly transported to the ferry by a truck tractor. 💪 This initiative is a collaboration between DB Cargo Scandinavia and the ports of Hirtshals, Kristiansand, and Larvik, along with the Norwegian freight railway CargoNet AS, the railway company Nordjyske Jernbaner A/S, and the Green Jutland Corridor network.

#Dunaferr #turnaround 🏭 Liberty Dunaujvaros (née Dunaferr) has re-initiated production! 🗞 In a press release, sharing the news, they also highlighted good news for employees and sad news for suppliers: 😊 they'll launch a retraining program for employees so that they'll be able to operate the more modern, electric furnaces 🙁 they will start using less outside services. Though cost cutting is only mentioned in terms of outside services, based on the language (reorganization, cutting unreasonable operating costs) I wouldn't be surprised if the headcount also became leaner eventually. This certainly sounds sad, but - after the long years of poor performance and uncertainty - it also seems necessary. Looking forward to see how things will unfold - and of course how this turnaround will affect the supplier ecosystem around the factory.
