Interesting read. Big consulting firms are frequently little more than Partner Protection Programs, and more importantly, can stagnate essential internal growth. To me, the biggest differences between large firms and independent or boutiques are (a) the focus on a specific, demonstrable value, vs. a lengthy, extended process, and (b) being solely beholden to the paying client, vs. a Partner intermediary (who also controls their livelihood). Having said that, I do feel there exists a bit of "physician, heal thyself" potential in the entire consulting realm... Richard Fagerlin Andrea Fredrickson David Liddell Randy Boek Kevin Leonard
The Big 4 have not cornered the market on brains. Nor on strategic thinking. And especially not on commitment to the clients’ best interests. They are a ‘profits at full capacity’ business, which means frequently taking business for which they are not qualified. The article points out they are subcontracting to solo consultants better skilled for some types of work and treating employees poorly after not developing them. Don’t overlook highly qualified solo consultants or small boutique firms. There’s a lot of gold in them thar hills!

Why you should Value your Search Partner?! 🕵️♂️ When you engage the services of a qualified solicitor, you pay handsomely for advice from a professional advisor, with a qualification and years of experience. Charged by the hour, you know you are receiving top-notch guidance. You wouldn't expect free advice and support from that seasoned expert. This principle holds in many industries - except Recruitment……..! As a candidate to be represented in the market, the service provided to you is free of charge - that does not mean valueless! Our clients pay the bill, but you should invest in the relationship as if it were chargeable to you.
