We’d like to introduce you to an absolute superstar named Ben. After losing a close family member to suicide, Ben gained personal insight into the importance of mental health support and early identification of mental health issues. He’s setting off on a mission to raise awareness for mental health and important funds for headspace centres in Echuca, Swan Hill and Mildura. From 3 March, Ben is aiming to run from Mildura to Echuca in 4 days, 4 hours and 44 minutes. That’s 380kms – the equivalent of nine marathons. So far, he’s raised an incredible $174,000 of his $200,000 goal. Thank you, Ben, for your inspirational effort and commitment to supporting the mental health of young people. You can follow Ben’s journey via his Instagram page: https://bit.ly/40OOwF4 or donate to his fundraiser here: https://bit.ly/3WvUzvF

PUSH-UP CHALLENGE // Yup, we're doing it!! Well... actually... Lee Stevens is doing it. He's jumped in with Adam Cheyne MPIA and the Urbankind team because Annie and Nicholas have no upper body strength. Nadda. Zilch. And anyway, Annie has to take the photos and video, and Nick has to count the reps to keep Lee honest. 😉 Sooooo, it would be great to get people on board and support our fundraising efforts. Here's the link to make a donation > https://lnkd.in/gKwvGZ94 Why? Mental Health is something Nick and Lee are really passionate about... particularly men's mental health and navigating fatherhood with life. It's something we should talk about more. So much more. And The Push-Up Challenge is Australia's largest mental health and fitness event that supports charities to deliver crisis support initiatives, programs and services that help in the prevention and early intervention of depression, anxiety and suicide. We can't think of any better reason to give this a go, starting today. Please make a pledge, and we'll keep you up-to-date on our progress over the next 24 days. #pushforbetter #vividrecruitment #clearandsimple #mentalhealth

Talk2mebro was developed to help reduce the number of males who die to suicide in Australia. Through early intervention, the aim is to create societal change by reducing the stigma around suicide and getting men to feel comfortable talking about what they are going through emotionally and mentally. To do this, Talk2mebro need to raise funds and through May they are running the “Stride to Survive” challenge. Their aim is to raise $100,000 and run 3,139km collectively. 3,139 is a poignant figure that reflects the lives lost to suicide in Australia each year. This dual challenge not only seeks to fund their vital initiatives but also to honour each life lost to suicide turning statistics into a rallying cry for action and awareness. This May, myself Maddison Morley and her brother Lachlan will each run 100km and aim to raise $1,000. While we know that times are tough, we would be extremely appreciative of donations of any amount, if you are unable donate we would also love for you to share the post to your connections, friends and family because raising awareness of this great cause is as good as raising money! If you click on the link below you can choose to donate individually or to the team. https://lnkd.in/g4xKeVgG

TLDR - mental health services are a privilege not available to all and I would be grateful for donations to bigmoose to help make them more available. Some things I have learned about therapy: 1/ therapy won't save you, only you can choose to save yourself. 2/ choosing to get therapy is a brave step, and the first step (accepting you need help) is often the hardest. 3/ therapy gives you tools to help you to reflect on and adjust your behaviours, and empower you to make changes to your life. but you have to do the work. 4/ access to therapy is a huge privilege which requires both time and money (our finite resources). All this is to say, I think therapy is a really important tool for helping with mental health issues, and I think it should be more available. I say this with an ulterior motive. In September, I am setting out to run 250km over 5 days along the Pembrokeshire coast to raise money for bigmoose. bigmoose is a charity which provides access to therapy services to those who may not have access otherwise and, importantly, aims to provide those services quickly. Some of you know I have had a few not great years, and therapy provided me with a non-judgmental and constructive space to explore how I was feeling. Without that space, I would definitely not be where I am now. So, if you are able to dig around behind the couch cushions and donate to help advance the important work bigmoose does, I would be very grateful. And then there is the small matter of running 250km... https://lnkd.in/eWeV_NF3

Habits shape your identity and your identity shapes your habits ♾️ Psychologist Wendy Wood found that 43% of what you do every day is a formed habit, so it’s clearly important to be aware of and actively manage your habits. If you fail to do so, you effectively give up control of your life and identity... First you must decide who you want to be, then figure out the habits necessary to get you there. I use a habit tracker for my 10 most important habits and review my progress daily. This, of course, is subject to iteration. In training for the marathon, I have incorporated new habits for training and recovery. For investing I have started new habits to improve my understanding of where the world is today and where it is going. All so I have control over what I do today that will create who I am tomorrow. — In week 9, I ran 17.8 miles at an average pace of 7:40 minutes per mile. I’m raising money for the non-profit, Active Plus, that is promoting mental health through physical activity for the at-risk youth in NYC. 👇Please Donate Below👇 http://bit.ly/44JQeb9

Did you wake up today and feel like life is just not worth living? Well, I hope not. But just for a moment as you read that question, you might have glimpsed an insight into the dark world that many people suffering from mental health disorders can face on a daily basis. And unlike the physical health ups and downs that we all experience as a normal part of life, untreated mental health issues can spread like its inky blackness to all corners of a person's life for many years. There are many noble causes to champion, but it is the invisible and life long suffering that I have seen in good people with mental health issues that really concerns me, and especially young people in the complex world we have created for them to live in. I'd like to ask you to help me do something about it. This year is my fourth year leading a team of Port Melbourne legends in the Push Up Challenge. It's a simple thing (sort of). We each do one push up for every life lost to suicide last year over 24 days, and ask you to donate to the cause. Unfortunately that means each of us needs to do 3,249 push-ups, but we will get there! To donate go to my challenge page: https://lnkd.in/gpNeD8DP And of course, you will get a receipt to claim as your donation is tax deductible. My donations are going to Headspace. Even if you don't donate, thanks for reading this far and spending a moment focusing on mental health. Perhaps you know someone to ask RUOK.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. This week is Construction Suicide Prevention Week. It is critical that we place as much focus on mental health in our workforce as much as we do the physical. #ConstructionSuicidePreventionWeek #SuicidePrevention #NAMI #MentalHealth #Construction
Safety doesn't just include PPE. Mental health and suicide prevention are key factors, too. This week is Construction Suicide Prevention Week. Compared to other industries, construction workers commit suicide at a four times higher rate. That's why Ahern is stepping up to prevent suicide with NAMI Fond du Lac County. NAMI Fond du Lac County is currently hosting its third annual STEP UP to PREVENT SUICIDE campaign presented by Horicon Bank throughout the month of September. You can text STEPUP2024 to 53555 and follow the link to our campaign page and click "DONATE & TICKETS" to donate to the campaign. 24-miles. 14 hikers. 3 peaks. 1 long day. We're raising money and awareness in the fight for better mental health by completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for Mind (local branch of Harrogate). So, while we climb high (5200 ft to be exact!) we’re asking you to dig deep and donate. 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, but most people don’t get the help they need. This has to change. That’s why Mind is fighting for mental health, making it an everyday priority. Your donation will help power Mind’s helplines. It will help write mental health information. And it lets Mind push the UK government to do more to help people with mental health problems. Donate today - no matter the amount - so we can hit our target of £2,000 and help make a difference on a local level. https://lnkd.in/eaiFWyfa

Compassion happens from the inside out. In a world where we are often compelled to focus on others' struggles, it is essential to shift our perspective and recognise the importance of introspection. This World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th endeavours to highlight the vital need to change the narrative around suicide. In support I have created an insightful 45-minute session designed not just to inform but to transform our approach to mental health. In this session, we will explore the complexities of suicide, how to better support others, and the necessity of empathic self-awareness. Understanding our own experiences is the first step in supporting others well. Let’s come together to foster a more compassionate environment where we can learn, support, and uplift one another. For a charitable donation of £550, your organization can host this enlightening session. To inquire, please reach out to commissionus@mhiuk.org.
Between Monday 9 September to Friday 11 October, we are offering the opportunity to hear from Mental Health Innovations’ Dr Ariele Noble, chartered psychologist, training specialist and executive coach, in a thought-provoking 45-minute webinar. Dr Noble will cover what being suicidal means, what mental health is and isn't, how to better support one another, and what people in distress need. She will provide engaging and thought provoking explanations, share innovative ideas and targeted exercises. For a charitable donation of £550, Dr Noble will deliver the session to your organisation. Trigger warning: suicide I’ve umm’d and ahh’d about sharing this story online all month, especially on my LinkedIn page given the professional audience, but I think it might help somebody, so I’m going to. As you may know, I’m raising money for Movember and my motivation this year is men’s mental health. Fundraising is one thing, but more importantly, I’m hoping I can encourage other people to talk to openly and honestly about their mental battles, because the fight is so much easier when you’re not doing it alone. Here’s a wee story that I hope courages you to chat and find the peace you need. A few years ago my wife and I were quite involved with a church in Dunedin. Through that church, we met an amazing young guy who we’ll call Dan for the sake of the story. Dan was an amazing guy with the world at his feet. Talented, charismatic, and the real deal. Dan was facing a few mental battles of his own which he was quite open with me about. One Friday afternoon as I was at work, he called me and told me that he was planning to take his life that night, and he was calling to say goodbye. Needless to say, I dropped everything I was doing and went to his flat to pick him up immediately. Dan stayed with us for a few nights. We sat together, ate together, cried together, and talked together. Dan didn’t end up taking his life that night. Fast forward a few years and Dan has moved back to his home city. We happened to have lunch together a few months ago and he shared with me that when he went home, he went through another dark patch with his mental health. So much so that he was in the process of another suicide attempt, but the very thing that stopped him going through with it was a flashback from all those years prior when Kristy and I opened our home to him. He said to me that he didn’t want our kindness to go to waste and that he couldn’t let us down by taking his own life. Needless to say to say I started welling up with tears at the bar we were sharing lunch at. I didn’t realise how much of an impact we had on his life. I don’t share that story to make us look amazing. I share it to encourage you to talk to somebody in your world and make sure they’re actually ok, because there may come a time where the kindness you show may save a life. You never know what sort of impact your actions will have. https://lnkd.in/gm6i7QHp
