✍ Seeing a recommendation you drafted get picked up in a Select Committee report is always nice!   In January, the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee, the select committee responsible for overseeing government expenditures and ensuring they are effective and honest, released an inquiry on the NHS Supply Chain, the organisation responsible for managing the sourcing, delivery and supply of healthcare products and services to the NHS.   The team and I supported the Medical Technology Group (MTG) with their response to the Committee’s Inquiry, speaking to the impact of the procurement of medical devices on patient access, the involvement of patients in decision making and the need for more holistic procurement mechanisms.   A few weeks back, the Public Accounts Committee published its inquiry report, and a recommendation from the Medical Technology Group has been cited for consideration from Government!   Now all eyes are on the Government’s response to the Report, due within the next two months. Full recommendation: "The Medical Technology Group (MTG) argued that the overall value of products is often overlooked by NHS Supply Chain compared to the costs of the initial procurement of the product. It noted that medical devices could provide the NHS with longer-term savings, as well as providing patients with better outcomes, which has a positive impact on patient lives and the economy as well as reducing engagement with health and care services. MTG recommended increased efforts within NHS Supply Chain to develop and deliver ‘Value-Based Procurement models’, capturing the whole system savings necessary for the NHS."
