Mark Teixeira is a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star and 2009 World Series champion. But for all his success on the baseball diamond, he is just as highly regarded for his work off the field. Teixeira established scholarship endowments at his alma maters of Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore and Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He is a board member for The Emerald Corridor Foundation, which not only works to build and restore safe green spaces and waterways in Atlanta, but also helps strengthen the community via education, job training and employment opportunities. He has been a supporter of DREAM, a New York nonprofit that has been supported by the Heisman Trophy Trust. DREAM is a youth development organization that uses the power of teams to inspire inner-city youth to recognize their potential and realize their dreams through its school, after-school and summer programs. This tremendous positive impact in multiple communities is why Mark Teixeira was awarded the Heisman Humanitarian Award in 2018. #Heisman #MoreThanATrophy

So pleased to see the exceptional media coverage and support of the Raheem Sterling Foundation over the weekend highlighting our work with the #UniversityofManchester and #KingsCollegeLondon. The continuation of our fully-funded London and Manchester scholarship program is now in its second year. The initiative is designed to level the playing field by offering equal access to higher education, in direct response to the underrepresentation of black students from London and Greater Manchester areas who constitute just 8.5% of first-year undergraduate entrants in the UK. We are committed to alleviating financial strain, enabling young persons from under-represented backgrounds to truly maximise their talent in a chosen field. Our full-time mentorship programme also guarantees a vital support system across the 3-year terms. Guided by our #PowerOf7 strategy, we aim to inspire and support young people through education, employment, enterprise, community, creativity, leadership and social mobility Why This Initiative Matters #SocialMobility: We believe that every young person, regardless of their background, should have the chance to improve their opportunities, careers, and quality of life. Our initiatives are designed to remove obstacles and create pathways for success. #Community: From our collaboration with local schools to our international projects, we are dedicated to building safer, supportive communities. For example, our Community Kitchen at Ark Elvin Academy in Brent has brought families together, providing meals and fostering a spirit of togetherness. #Creativity: The ‘Making of Me’ project, in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, has given young people the chance to explore their creativity and develop skills for future careers in the arts. #Leadership: Through initiatives like #BrentGoesGlobal, we are equipping the next generation with leadership skills and global perspectives, preparing them to become the leaders of tomorrow. #TheBoyFromBrent #SocialMobility #YouthEmpowerment #Education #Community #Creativity #Leadership #Enterprise #PowerOf7 For more details on our projects and impact, please visit https://lnkd.in/eT_eYSNz or contact me here chris@raheemsterlingfoundation.org

The Legatus of Raleigh chapter welcomes author and activist Kenny Xu as their guest speaker for the April chapter meeting. Mr. Xu's first book, "An Inconvenient Minority," exposed the harms of race-based admissions programs on a critical minority, Asian-Americans, who often face college admissions departments that prioritize other minorities rather than merit. Mr. Xu's second book, "School of Woke," explored the ill effects of Critical Race Theory in the public education system. Mr. Xu also successfully joined a lawsuit before the Supreme Court that overturned race-based practices in college admissions. Mr. Xu's two books coupled with his advocacy through the non-profit Color Us United have impacted the cultural and educational landscape of America by helping people understand the importance of building a truly colorblind, merit-based society where people are treated as individuals. If you would like to learn more about how to join Legatus of Raleigh, please contact Chapter Administrator Mary Miskimon. #Catholic #CEO #Leader #Leadership #Raleigh

There is no question about it, mentorship and education are key to helping unlock opportunities and potential. This is true across the board, but wow is it transformative when trying to address inequity. Proud to see the brilliant minds of my former KIPP colleagues leading this conversation. #mentoringmatters
Earlier today two inspiring KIPP alumni, Nyeka Artiaga and Rashan Williams spoke on the #AspenIdeas panel discussion "Dreaming Our Futures — A Fireside Chat on Mentorship and Education" introduced by KIPP Foundation board member, Carrie Walton Penner. Research shows that young people thrive when they have a sense of purpose in school and work—and the right mentors and guides are crucial in helping them find it. Nyeka, a dedicated Special Education Assistant at KIPP Vida Preparatory Academy, and Rashan, a passionate student at Montclair State University, shared insights on how they are empowering youth to navigate the challenges on their path to adulthood. They were joined by the legendary Hip-Hop Artist, Actor, and Activist Common, and the visionary Co-Founder and CEO of Reconstruction, Kaya Henderson. We're feeling inspired by their stories and insights! 💫 #KIPPAlumni #MentorshipMatters Aspen Ideas Walton Family Foundation

Here's a recent story I did on one our GAP School alumni!
Check out this story on GAP School Alumnus, Grace Ntibonera! From attending college on a full-ride scholarship, to starting his own nonprofit organization, to purchasing land in the Democratic Republic of Congo that will eventually be home to a community theatre space for his home country, Grace has been busy to say the least. What can the faith community learn from the sports community? And vice versa? (Comments welcome!) The #NFL playoffs have me thinking about about how #sports can feel like a substitute for modern day religious affiliation. Ritual, belief, redemption and, of course, celebration. But what about deeper, more intentional connections? What about the influence of athletes expressing their faith? What about faith and fashion in sports? Faith and #philanthropy? I’m curious how athletics and faith intertwine - the business, the passion, and ultimately the impact. Who else is thinking about this? How does it show up in religious movements? In college and sports? It feels like this could be a sub-community over in the Forbes Faith + Business community. https://lnkd.in/eMadN_ZY Can’t wait to hear your perspectives (and student comments too!) #faith #religiousorganizations #athletemanagement #collegeathletics #faithandwork #nonprofitmanagement #churchleadership #sports #education #nil

Grateful to United Way of Delaware, Michelle A. Taylor, Ed.D., and Ken Livingston for exposing our Young Men United (YMU) participants to college life and helping them unlock their potential. Thank you for your dedication and support! 🙏🏾S/o to the partners/ universities that make things happen Big Brother Big Sisters of Delaware, Goldey-Beacom College and Morgan State University #Education 🧑🏾Our boys are not broken-- the systems are. 🛠 United Way National Young Men United (YMU) Initiative proposes to support local United Ways and young men of color in the United States over the next several years to increase their post-secondary attainment and workforce preparedness. Our shared objectives are to bolster the school to work pipeline in the United States by ensuring that young men of color who participate in this initiative realize their full leadership potential - as successful college graduates who are prepared to enter the workforce, and to be engaged in their communities. It is also to engage partners and donors to support the work of United Way related to closing critical gaps in education, the workforce, and addressing other inequities. 📺: https://lnkd.in/eXf8VnUG
