Behind every strong foundation is a vision—and every vision starts with the raw materials that make it possible. Today, I’m honored to oversee this truckload of steel beams (with more products to be added this evening), each one destined to play a role in building not just a structure, but someone’s dream home. These beams will support walls that hold family photos, roofs that offer shelter, and rooms that echo with laughter and love. It’s incredible to witness the journey from raw materials to a finished home—a place where memories will be made, stories will unfold, and futures will be built. This work is so much more than construction; it’s about shaping spaces that bring people together. Grateful for every partnership and the trust that brings us to moments like these. Here’s to building with heart and strength, one beam at a time. If you’re looking to source steel for your next commercial, residential, or industrial project, reach out—let’s build something incredible together! 2024 has been a year of great investment 📈 Over the last 12 months, we have strengthened our product portfolio and our ability to support developers, housebuilders, architects, and contractors. Most notably, we continued work on our biggest investment project to date, the £18.5m update of our Nicolson Way site in Burton-on-Trent. This immense investment project has already seen the construction of a new groundbreaking batching plant, complete with a mixer to facilitate increased concrete roof tile production. The project will also deliver more manufacturing lines and a new 1600 sq/m building using a 30-ton steel frame which houses a state-of-the-art curing chamber for the concrete tiles, which is a significant part of the new plant. Once complete the upgrade will double our manufacturing output at the 10.5-acre site. #Roofing #Investment #Burton #2024

The Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower) in Chicago, USA, is an engineering marvel due to its innovative bundled tube structural system, which consists of nine interconnected vertical tubes that provide both strength and flexibility. Instead of relying on a traditional steel frame or single core, this system allowed the building to resist lateral forces, such as wind, more efficiently as it distributes the wind loads across the entire structure, rather than focusing them on the center, making it more stable and allowing it to reach a height of 1,450 feet (442 meters). This design also reduced the amount of steel required, making it a more economical and practical solution for constructing supertall skyscrapers. The Willis Tower was the tallest building in the world from its completion in 1973 until 1998. #StructuralEngineering #EngineeringExcellence #BuildingDesign #EngineeringMarvel #FazlurKhan #EngineeringLegends #StructuralInnovation #SustainableArchitecture

The BRGN Plate Lifting System, developed by F3 Timber Technologies, is a robust and versatile solution designed for hoisting mass timber components such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) panels and glulam columns. This system was used alongside the CRUX Bracing System in the construction of Google's MT1 building in Sunnyvale, California, a 182,500-square-foot office structure. The BRGN Plate Lifting System's low-profile design enables pre-installation in the shop with minimal dunnage during transport, enhancing efficiency in the construction process. Its versatility makes it suitable for lifting various timber components, including framed or solid timber panels, whether flat or tilted for vertical positioning. In the Google MT1 project, the system's high capacity and swift cycle times contributed to the effective handling and placement of substantial timber elements, underscoring its practicality in large-scale mass timber constructions. This system is available exclusively at F3 Timber Technologies. 5 months since topping out, 5 months till completion… Let's take a look at everything that makes The Fitzrovia #unique. 💡 The superstructure is comprised of 2,100 individual precast pieces that include: Hollowcore floor planks; steel Deltabeams; twin-wall panels; and solid precast concrete beam, wall and stair units. 💡Off-site fabrication has allowed a significant #acceleration of the project programme while maintaining high-quality standards. This has also achieved a reduction in waste and deliveries to site. 💡The combination of Deltabeams and Hollowcore slabs allows for a reduction in structural floor depth, #maximising floor-to-ceiling heights and #improving occupant wellbeing. 💡Throughout the process, there was also a significant focus on sustainability – steel beams were manufactured using #renewable energy and specified to contain over 90% #recycled material. 💡The slab toppings were reinforced using basalt mesh reinforcement, which can have a carbon footprint up to 40x lower than a traditional steel mesh. Take a look at the video below to learn more about it's construction.. ❓Does #MassTimber make sense for #AffordableHousing? Yes - it does ✅ And here's how you do it. 1️⃣ First, #designers and #architects need to be up to speed on the current best practices. 2️⃣ Then, your #GC and #Contractors have to be able to make the most of the schedule savings #CLT and #MassTimber offer. 3️⃣ Last, look to successful projects that have already done it. Connect with those teams to see what worked and what didn't. Michaela Harms of Sterling Structural is hosting a workshop on these topics at the 2024 Mass Timber Group Summit this August in Denver. "The key to making #CLT affordable and accessible is in orienting mass timber building design towards standardization and repeatability, while revisioning the way that domestic mass timber suppliers can streamline their product range and delivery to improve accessibility and economic inclusion for CLT."
