I’m conducting important research to better understand the attitudes of Tennessee employers toward fair chance hiring—a practice that gives individuals with criminal histories a fair opportunity to secure employment. This survey is designed to identify: Employers who are actively using fair chance hiring practices. Those who are willing to participate but need additional support or resources. Those who currently do not practice fair chance hiring, and understanding the reasons why. As someone committed to helping people—no matter their background—find stable, meaningful careers, I believe that everyone deserves the chance to excel, provide for their families, and contribute to their communities. Employers often question job applicants about gaps in their employment history. However, it's important to recognize that the job market plays a significant role in creating these gaps. Many qualified individuals struggle to find employment due to a lack of opportunities. Additionally, life circumstances such as raising a family can lead to employment gaps, but this should not be a reflection of a person's ability to work. This is why I chose to pursue an education in Human Resource Management to address these issues and improve outcomes for job seekers as best I can. Employers need to look beyond employment gaps and consider the overall qualifications and potential of each candidate.

Considering the competitive job market, standing out is crucial. If you're in a profession that interacts frequently with children or vulnerable populations, adding mandated reporter training to your resume can give you an edge.
