This morning our Israel Office had the honor to host Federal Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger and a group of Israel and German Helmholtz researchers to discuss their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of current and future international research collaborations. We will continue to promote exchange and cooperation with research institutions in Israel and in the region, because we believe that only through dialogue and within the framework of an open and international scientific community we can collectively tackle the pressing problems of our time. ⚕ Last week at the Oslo University Hospital and Oslo Cancer Cluster, we met for a Melomanes meeting focused on advancing melanoma therapy 🧬👥, organized by Cécilia Ménard-Moyon and Marion Roullet! 🌿 We discussed the safety and sustainability of emerging nanoparticle technologies and the traditional pharma sector. #SSbD #SafetybyDesign #Sustainability 🌊 Did you know? Up to 80% of drug-active ingredients can end up in wastewater without being metabolized. Studies have found over 130 pharmaceuticals, including antitumor agents and antibiotics, at concerning concentrations in European waters, particularly in Germany 🇩🇪. ⏩ Remember, the fight against cancer also involves combating the environmental presence of harmful chemicals (including pharmaceuticals) and pollutants in our water, air, and soil. #GreenChemistry 🔬 New technologies like nanoparticles, are simultaneously potentially more effective but also more unpredictable, and still require extensive studies to determine if they are safe enough. #NanoparticleSafety Thanks to Ayush Shukla and his supervisor, Michiel Van Oudheusden for their workshop exploring ethics and self-awareness! NovaMechanics Ltd for the data management workshop 🌐 and Sofia Gaio for the inspiring discussions about communication! #Ecotoxicity #Toxicity #SafeandSustainablebyDesign #Pharma #CancerTeraphy #PharmaceuticalInnovation #SustainableHealthcare
Third consortium meeting of the Melomanes project at the Oslo University Hospital. Very delighted to see many interactions between the partners and great progress by the doctoral researchers in their individual research projects. 👏

🌐 We celebrate 50 years of scientific and technical cooperation between Germany and India! 🎉 On 21 and 22 May 2024 we will celebrate this milestone in Darmstadt. As DLR Projektträger, we are supporting the BMBF in organising a scientific exchange programme supplementing the celebratory event which is hosted by GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research / FAIR. 🔬The aim is to highlight the remarkable journey of partnership and to showcase the progress of FAIR, an international accelerator center for research with antiprotons and ions, a unique testimony to our joint efforts in pushing and expanding the boundaries of scientific exploration. The participants are invited to witness firsthand the innovative solutions to technical challenges and the diverse array of scientific endeavors shaping our future. 🤝 Supported by the BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung), this event aims to spotlight the achievements and diversity of our cooperation. Four thematic groups will meet at different site visits in order to discuss obstacles and collect new ideas of Indo-German Cooperation in Science and Technology. Let's celebrate the past, present, and future of Indo-German cooperation in science and technology with engaging discussions, including a policy talk featuring Dr. Jens Brandenburg, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMBF, and esteemed representatives from our Indian partner. 🌟 #IndoGermanSTC50 #ScienceDiplomacy #ResearchPartnership

Above and beyond honored being awarded this European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant to study the human genetic and immunological determinants of invasive group A streptococcal infections. Why are most group A streptococcal infections benign, but suffer some otherwise healthy people from a devastating infection with this pathogen? Curiosity-driven, fundamental research of host-pathogen interactions: a molecular compass to combat infectious diseases. Big thanks for the trust and support – from mentors, peers, trainees, and the European Commission. #StrepA #HumanGenetics #InfectiousDiseases #InbornErrorsofImmunity #TeamScience UMC Utrecht - Utrecht University - The European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) - ESCMID - European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases - Nederlandse Vereniging voor Medische Microbiologie (NVMM) - Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Microbiologie (KNVM) - Nederlandse Internisten Vereniging - Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kindergeneeskunde - European Union
