Did You Know? Climate Change #WorldWins Hawai‘i was the FIRST state to commit to 100% clean #renewableenergy for electricity, to a net-negative emissions goal, to the Paris Agreement in law and to do its part based on the science and Hawai‘i’s share of the nation’s emissions. #Hawai‘i is focusing on high-impact actions and leading by example The Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative renewed Hawai‘i’s commitment to setting bold clean energy goals that include achieving the nation’s first-ever 100 percent renewable portfolio standards (RPS) by the year 2045. The initiative was launched in 2008, when the State of Hawai‘i and U.S. Department of Energy signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the reduction of Hawai‘i’s heavy dependence on imported #fossilfuels. To turn that vision into reality, HCEI is transforming the financial, regulatory, legal, and institutional systems that govern energy planning and delivery within the state. These initiatives and change are what we at Blue Planet Foundation and Blue Planet Alliance work hard to support through our own efforts, collaborating hand in hand with other nations around the world to follow suit!

Aloha Aaron, this is old news, Govenor Ige is no longer in office (that's good news), and it is my opinion that Govenor Green is on the right track to achieving the goals that Hawaii needs for the future, by reintroducing the importation of LNG (only from the mainland). If the LNG is applied correctly, it could reduce GHG emissions by >50% as soon as all HECO plants are converted and upgraded to natural gas. At the same time retrofit the extinct AES coal plant natural gas immediately to reintroduce the 180 MW that was lost to the grid when the ridiculous move was made by the legislature to close it down. Each of these plants would be upgraded with Carbon Capture Systems to recycle the CO2 for reuse. Importing LNG would open up the Fuel Cell market in Hawaii and then Hawaii would have a real economic pathway to a hydrogen economy for at least transportation in the near term.
