One of my favorite aspects of the work we do at McKissack & McKissack is enriching people’s lives through #AEC. Our work at Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA)-O'Hare, one of the busiest airports in the world, will improve passenger comfort and experience. Once the #ElevateT3 project is complete, passengers will have more space to sit and relax, a more streamlined TSA experience and an improved baggage claim area. Charter passengers will soon see an expanded fleet of the best-selling Citation 560XL series of business jets at Marshfield Municipal Airport (KGHG). Shoreline Aviation expects delivery of two Citation XLS+ jets in 2024. They will complement the current charter fleet of Citation XLS+ and Excel jets as the company’s Citation lineup moves exclusively to the 560XL series. Meridiam Americas Chief Operating Officer Omri Gainsburg recently spoke to P3 Bulletin on #Meridiam’s enthusiasm for #publicprivatepartnerships (#P3s) in the air transportation space. Flying into Oshkosh, WI for EAA AirVenture is a “challenging endeavor,” to say the least, due to the extremely high traffic density — making it the busiest airport in the world for the week. The EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024 Notice, previously known as Oshkosh NOTAMS, is essential reading for all pilots to ensure a safe arrival and departure during the 71st fly-in convention, scheduled from July 22nd through 29th . This 32 page read provides comprehensive details on procedures and policies, updated based on pilot feedback and FAA recommendations, crucial for navigating the airspace that will see more than 10,000 aircraft and hundreds of thousands of attendees. Here are the highlights you need to be aware of: changes to the FISK holding procedure, new TFRs in Milwaukee airspace due to the Republican National Convention and specified transition points such as Endeavor Bridge, Puckaway Lake and Green Lake to manage congestion. The Notice is effective from Noon CDT on July 18th through Noon CDT on July 29th, providing tailored procedures for various aircraft types. As emphasized by Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety, thorough preparation and understanding of these procedures are vital for a safe and successful journey to and from AirVenture, where Wittman Regional Airport is expected to handle up to 148 takeoffs and landings per hour. #supplychain #transportation Have you noticed air taxis spring up in a couple of places recently? Joby Aviation just piloted (no pun intended) a fully electric service that will eventually travel from lower Manhattan to JFK and the five boroughs. A trip from Wall Street to JFK takes roughly seven minutes. The company expects to be operational in 2025 and is working with the city and Delta Air Lines to set up vertiports at the two major airports. Commercial air taxi operations also target LA as a second metropolitan area with lots of demand right out of the gate. Here in Texas Overair just inked a deal with two airports, DFW and Arlington, to establish vertiport infrastructure for air taxi operations. The company is currently building a full-scale version of its Butterfly vehicle and expects to commence paid operations in 2027. There has been a vibrant VTOL community in Texas for years by now due to large players such as Textron, Lockheed Martin, or AllianceTexas. 🤔 What is a fit test?🛠️ Why conduct a fit test if the aircraft ✈️ was already designed on paper? 🤷♂️ Aircraft fit tests are crucial to ensuring jet bridges, ground transportation equipment (GSE), and the aircraft itself can safely and efficiently operate at the gate. These tests verify that there is sufficient space for servicing the aircraft and that all elements can function as intended. But why conduct fit tests if the design is already on paper? Despite careful planning, real-world factors such as varying equipment and operational procedures among airlines can lead to discrepancies. Ground and airport operations involve different crews, and not all practices align perfectly with the initial design. Conducting fit tests allows for adjustments to be made, improving both safety and efficiency based on practical insights gained in the field. As aviation engineers, our involvement in these fit tests is so important. By prioritizing fit tests in the design process and actively participating in them, we can enhance passenger safety, comfort, and accessibility. This commitment ensures that air travel remains a reliable and enjoyable mode of transportation for everyone. The recent completion of the aircraft fit test at Gate 30 marks a significant milestone for the Terminal 6 Redevelopment project, bringing us one step closer to opening the updated gate at Terminal 5.
