According to an analysis conducted by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, the costs for common medical procedures were found to be as much as 58 percent higher when performed in a hospital outpatient department compared to a doctor's office. Blue Health Intelligence examined commercial claims data from 2017 to 2022, covering 133 million Blue Cross and Blue Shield members, to evaluate the variance in allowed costs for six common outpatient services: mammograms, colonoscopy screenings, diagnostic colonoscopies, cataract surgeries, ear tympanostomy procedures, and clinical visits. Ladies, did you know Casper Medical Imaging & Outpatient Radiology were the first to establish breast density reporting before it was mandated? Come September, a new notification law will require women to be informed on their breast density. The FDA issued a final rule under the Mammography Quality Standards Act for a national dense breast reporting standard for both patient results letters and mammogram reports. This means, you will receive a letter stating your breasts are either "dense" or "not dense." Happy New Year! Here is a quick update in 🇩🇪 German healthcare news: As of January first, the long speculated and discussed Hybrid-DRG’s have been introduced into the German #reimbursement system. Put simply, a #HybridDRG is a lump sum tariff that reimburses the same € rate in both the hospital and out-of-hospital settings for the corresponding ambulatory surgery or intervention. Up until now, DRG’s have been solely usable for inpatient billing. Now, as a part of the efforts to ambulantize the German health care system, the introduction of these cross-sectoral DRG’s should further improve outpatient reimbursement opportunities and disincentivize unnecessary inpatient surgeries. As of this time, the list of possible operations is limited to 5 care areas (removal of ureteral stones, ovariectomies, arthrodesis of the toe joints, excision of a pilonidal sinus and certain hernia interventions) and their corresponding Hybrid-DRG’s. Hopefully, the list will be expanded in the future.
