A (really!) transnational and multi/inter/transdisciplinary #Project which, as always, is a starting point and not an arrival point. The Earth-Humanity Coalition (EHC) has been created in April 2024 as an answer to a call by the United Nations General Assembly: in the resolution promulgating 2024-2033 as the "International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development" (IDSSD), this assembly explicitly calls for the mobilization of the organizations involved in the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (2022-2023). In close collaboration with UNESCO, EHC aims for the development of co-designed (or transdisciplinary) research for sustainable development: the mobilization of all kind of knowledge related activities, basic science research, humanities, social sciences, traditional and indigenous knowledge, together with citizens, their organizations and representatives, to develop an equitable human well-being and planetary health. Carlos is a member of the Advisory Board of the the Bateson Institute and fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science. Nolita Thina Mvunelo, Programme Manager for the Emerging New Civilisations & Youth Leadership and Intergenerational Dialogues Impact Hubs at The Club of Rome. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in a webinar hosted by CHARTER - European Cultural Heritage Skills Alliance, titled "How Can Heritage Skills Unlock the Full Potential of European Regions." Professionals from various regions discussed the main challenges and solutions for preserving heritage. Two significant issues emerged: the generation gap affecting knowledge transfer and the lack of specialized restoration and preservation skills for both intangible and tangible heritage. Setting up a network of heritage skill academies might be one if the possible solutions to address the ever-evolving risks to suffer irreversable heritage losses. #hetitage #heritageskills #intangibleheritage #culturalmanagement #culturechallenges #europeanheritage

Meet the speakers! 📣 On September 13th we will together with our partners, host the workshop titled Labelling Matters. As part of the #workshop, there will be two plenary sessions, hosted by Dr. Hester Dibbits and Dr. Robbert-Jan Adriaansen. Hester Dibbits is the head of the Cultural Heritage research group at the Reinwardt Academie, part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts. Bridging the gap between academia and practice, Dibbits employs a historical-ethnological perspective with a special focus on everyday culture. Her research aims to equip heritage professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate complex #heritage issues. Dibbits lectures and gives workshops nationally and internationally, particularly on emotion networking—a method she co-developed which provides insight into the complex interplay of #interests, #knowledge and #emotions in heritage interactions. Dr. Robbert-Jan Adriaansen is executive director of the Center for Historical Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Per September 2024 he will hold the endowed EuroClio chair Historical Culture in Transition at Ghent University. His research focuses on changing conceptions of #history and historical consciousness, in the #past and in the #present, currently focusing mainly on historical understanding in digital culture and history #education. This relationship will be explored from several perspectives. Firstly historically, the rise and development of Neo-Calvinist socio-economic thought—roughly from “Groen to Goudzwaard,” but also in its international transmission in the 20th and 21st century—will be considered. Secondly philosophically and theologically, the question will be addressed how Neo-Calvinist thought on these issues should be evaluated. What is its use for contemporary challenges such as increasing inequality and climate change? About twenty presenters from institutions all over the world will present a short paper on a wide array of topics related to the conference theme. The three-day #insituconference conference provided a great opportunity for connecting with researchers, artists and cultural entrepreneurs from different geographies who focus on the role of cultural practices, policies and creative industries in the sustainable development of rural areas. One of the most important questions of my research project is understanding the cultural impact of creative urban groups on the rural areas where they are located. In this context, I shared my findings from fieldwork conducted in Turkey's southern Aegean towns, reflecting on the sociospatial dynamics of ex-urbanites’ creative occupations, and analyzing their relationships with local rural communities. It seems that cultural impact analysis will gain more significance in the coming period. One of the most valuable outcomes of the conference for me was the opportunity to exchange ideas with organizations preparing to work on this topic. Another key takeaway for me was the importance of reflecting more on cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral dimensions of cultural and creative industries to better understand the practices and productions of creative urban communities in rural areas.
