Isomerization is an oil refining process that converts straight-chain hydrocarbons into branched-chain hydrocarbons, which have higher octane ratings and better performance as gasoline components. This process uses catalysts like platinum or zeolite under high pressure and temperature. It is especially useful for refining light naphtha, enhancing its octane rating and preventing engine knocking. Isomerization is crucial for producing reformulated gasoline, which meets environmental regulations by reducing pollutants like benzene and improving air quality. Axens is licensing a complete set of isomerization configurations in order to support refiners to resolve the evolving gasoline pool equation.
