Let's talk about #Syngas plants and #sulfurpoisoning (with a focus on the #primaryreformer or #SMR) with Anton Kariagin, one of Clariant's syngas subject matter experts. To avoid sulfur breakthrough in the first place: 🌟 Monitor your desulf. section - check sulfur in/out, track sulfur pick-up compared to the maximum amount your bed can handle 🌟 If you're using Clariant's service portal CLARITY®, consider using this tool to help you monitor your bed But, we all do everything we can and inevitably sulfur breakthrough downstream may occur. What happens if you have sulfur coming in to your plant? This is configuration dependent but the main reactors to worry about are: 🌟 Pre-reformer and/or the primary reformer 🌟 Low temperature shift (LTS) On the primary reformer #catalyst, sulfur lays down on the catalyst which blocks active sites. When this happens, the heat is not pulled away from the tube walls (as it normally is from the endothermic reaction of reforming) and you may visually see hot banding or hot spots on the tubes (these visually look like brighter spots on your tubes). On the LTS catalyst, sulfur is a permanent poison. So what can we do? For the primary reformer you can: 🌟 Monitor tube wall temperatures - operating too hot or above design severely impacts tube life. 🌟 Consider a steam-out to help regenerate the catalyst and remove the carbon formation. Excessive steaming can negatively impact catalyst activity so you want to balance steam and carbon removal but not do it too long or too frequently. 🌟 For severe poisoning, you can consider a steam/air regeneration. Has anyone had success regaining primary reformer catalyst activity after a sulfur poisoning event? What method did you use to regain activity? In the video I give the simple explanation of why it is possible to produce both high quality biochar and clean hydrogen-rich syngas at the same time. Everything is there in the feedstock -but needs reorganizing! It is not mentioned in this video, but we do this without producing any liquid fractions at all. If tar and/or acid water are wanted, one just has to cool the pyrolysis gas and there you go. The synthesis gas has a composition very much different from the composition of pyrolysis gas.

An aerated plugging solution has been proposed that uses certain waste productsfrom the chemical industry (Dulaev et al.,1992), as shown in Table 18.11. Thewater-glycol mixture contains ethyleneglycol, ethylcellosolve, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, and ethyl carbitol. It is obtained as a waste from the production of oligomers as a result of washing the equipment with water. The composition has an improved thermal stability, and when combined with a water-glycol mixture, it provides a high foam-forming ability and an increaseddegree of aeration of the pluggingsolution. What solutions do we offer for ammonia plants? Ammonia is an important basic material in the field of fertiliser production. The production process takes place in several stages. Depending on the feedstock and the selected plant design, one, two or three types of reformers are installed in series for steam methane reforming. This combination is the basis for the optimal recovery of hydrogen and syngas.
