Yokosuka, a city in east Japan, is breaking new ground by using AI to stream press conferences in English. This innovative approach aims to better inform the city's foreign residents and American personnel stationed at the Yokosuka naval base. Using ChatGPT, the city can summarize and translate the mayor's press conferences, creating videos in English that maintain the mayor's tone and message. This initiative, will help create a more inclusive city, according to Mayor Kamiji. The videos will be created using the HeyGen Video Translate feature, and is a project we are very excited about! Yokosuka plans to use our technology for disseminating information during disasters, providing tourist information, and promoting messages of peace to the world. 🤔 Japanese mayor suddenly speaks fluent English with AI video that surprises even him 🤔 There’s been a lot of talk about AI and its potential dangers for the worldwide community. However, for one mayor in Japan, the new technology is being embraced as a way to become a full-blown member of that global community, as it enables him to speak fluent English without having to even learn a word of it The new technology is being put to use in press conference videos by Yokosuka City Mayor Katsuaki Uechi that are designed to disseminate information to the local community. With Yokosuka being home to Japan’s largest U.S. naval base, the city is keen to increase its English-language communications, incorporating AI into its arsenal by using it to create an avatar of the mayor that speaks fluent English The results are mind-blowing, with the first video, released in April, showing just how well it mimics the mayor, matching both his appearance and voice, with the mouth even moving perfectly to match the shape of the English words being spoken The english is really good actually. https://lnkd.in/gBubMXAA

#JIAMCATT2024 day 2 took us on a fascinating journey from digital inclusion at UNESCO to AI-powered meeting summaries from the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO (including an impressive live demo). We explored how a smaller organization (UN Environment Programme) has been resourceful in using open-source tools for subtitling, and learned how AI fits into the terminology and knowledge management landscape (Publications Office of the European Union). The World Bank explored how AI and HI are harnessed in their language services, and the United Nations gave insights into how they are focusing on a "single version of truth" for multilingual AI. These insights fed into an interactive afternoon spent discussing AI's place in the language professions. All in all, a thought provoking day! #artificialintelligence #languageservices

Excited to share our research on Multilingual Hate Speech Detection, presented at the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Big Data! Alongside Michael H. and Adrian Paschke, we investigated optimal models for identifying hate speech in German, Italian, and Spanish text-based social media posts. Our study highlights the effectiveness of a multilingual approach, using XLM-RoBERTa as a classifier model, surpassing monolingual, and translation-based methods. Moreover, our findings underscore the practicality of translation-based alternatives, especially in scenarios with limited computational resources. 📚💡 You can find the paper at: https://lnkd.in/eGgsyrcE #BigData #HateSpeechDetection #MultilingualAI #IEEEConference
