In supportive housing, tenants receive intensive coordinated support so they can get back on their feet after experiencing homelessness. Often people transitioning out of homelessness need both a roof over their head and scaffolding to maintain their tenancy. This type of housing acknowledges that social housing is not one size fits all. We’re calling on the Queensland Government to make sure their historic social housing build includes 10% supportive housing. If you're that person who knows about drywalling and/or locksmithing, the team at One City Peterborough needs to speak with you yesterday. They are in need of someone with drywalling sills to help with some of the interior renovations and completing the offices at the former Trinity Church location. It's hard to handle confidential discussions when you haven't got four solid walls for your office! Likewise, the locksmith will be asked to do monthly checks to make sure that locks are locking and in some cases, repair or replace locks, strike plates and handles when needed. Both positions require vulnerable sector screening. There is also a need for someone very special to drive one of their clients to a community program. This client has some special needs, so it may not always just be dropping off/picking up. You will clearly need vulnerable sector screening and will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. According to Realtor.com, the salary needed to afford a home has increased by 62% since before the pandemic. In San Antonio, the median priced home was about $288k in June 2016 and the minimum required income was about $58k. Eight years later, the median priced home is now around $349k and the minimum required income is $94k. South Lanarkshire Council has granted planning permission for the Rutherglen village, with unanimous backing of both the Planning Committee and the Housing & Technical Resources Committee. This decision came on the same day as Scottish Government published the latest homelessness statistics. During 2023-24, there were 40,685 homelessness applications, a 4% increase on 2022-23 and the highest since 2011-12. These heartbreaking numbers show that there is more need than ever for action towards ending homelessness. The high-quality, self-contained living spaces and integrated support services of the South Lanarkshire Village will provide a vital resource to help people in Rutherglen and beyond on their journey from homelessness to independent living. It’s brilliant to see the project move forward and we can now progress to the next stages ahead of construction at the Harriet Street site. LEADING BUSINESS GROUPS, UNIONS, UNIVERSITIES AND HOUSING ADVOCATES SUPPORT UNLOCKING FAITH-OWNED LAND FOR HOUSING An unlikely coalition of voices has pitched ten powerful ideas to help increase housing supply and fast-track implementation to NSW Planning Minister Paul Scully today. Allowing housing to be built on land zoned 'Place of Public Worship' was one idea that could yield thousands of well-located homes alongside existing churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples, which are crucial community infrastructure. It's a measure that could help the NSW Government achieve its target of delivering 8,400 social homes and increase the limited amount of affordable housing available for people experiencing significant housing stress. The idea was first put forward by Faith Housing Alliance, which has 62 members, including faith communities, community housing providers, specialist homelessness services, and supporting organisations. Now, it has strong backing from the Housing Now! Alliance. It's an idea whose time has come, with support for 'Yes in God's Backyard' or YIGBY Bills in the US and a growing movement for housing justice across Australia. #YIGBY #socialhousing #affordablehousing
