Head of Client Involvement and VASP (Volunteering, Apprenticeships, and Student Placements) at St Mungo's
😕 So i don't like cancelling events without good reason 👉 but cancelling an event about how to ensure people are supported away from the streets to ensure that St Mungo's Outreach team have time to support people away from the streets definitely counts as a good reason. so if you were due to attend our event in Westminster tomorrow hopefully you understand the short notice cancellation . ❄ You may have noticed its cold , it's cold on the way to work , it's cold at home if you don't have the heating on and for people sleeping on the streets it is a matter of life and death . 🤷♂️ so how can you help 👇 1. Make a referral to StreetLink ( ideally with the individual`s permission to do so) this helps link them in with local services who can support them into accommodation https://lnkd.in/epKzDkvc 2. In temperatures below zero . SWEP( severe weather emergency protocol) should be running , you can ask your local authority if it is in your area. 3. Have a conversation , ask them how they are and how you can help reduce the isolation that people experiencing homelessness feel . They are not a number or a statistic . They are people who often feel invisible. 4. Buy a hot drink , we all need something hot in this weather. 5. Consider donating . Organisations like ours need donations to continue the vital work we do https://lnkd.in/dx6Wwrj 6. Volunteer your time. We always need time, skills and experience of the community to help our clients rebuild their lives https://lnkd.in/gFsq5x3 7. Be an ally - research , understand more about homelessness and dispel myths . Hold the hope for individuals who are struggling. #homelessness #roughsleeping #SWEP #coldweather #volunteering #community #donate

A conversation could change a life. By reaching out, you might encourage a family member, friend, or colleague to open up. Even if they’re not in a crisis, asking 'R U OK?' can strengthen your bond and help you notice when they might need support. Starting a conversation involves 4 simple steps: 1. Ask 2. Listen 3. Encourage Action 4. Check in . . This is Merri Outreach Support Service. Proudly Melbourne. Proudly working together to end homelessness. 🌟 Did you know that only 18% of people experiencing homelessness are chronically homeless, meaning they’ve been without a home for three or more years? 🌟 Most people have a default image in their minds of a homeless person, often picturing someone who is chronically homeless. However, this represents only a small portion of those experiencing homelessness. The majority are in need of a temporary helping hand to get back on their feet. At Homeless ID Project, we provide essential identification documents that open doors to housing, employment, and vital services. Every ID we issue is a step toward ending homelessness for good. We are hard at work with our partners at Keys to Change to get people documents and housing to end their homelessness! Join us in empowering lives and creating lasting change. 💪❤️ #HomelessIDProject #EndHomelessness #EmpowerLives #MakeADifference #CommunitySupport #IdentityMatters #GiveIDHope #HomelessEmpowerment #IDSupport #SupportHIDP #NonProfit #Charity #Community #Donate #NonProfitOrganization #Volunteer #GiveBack #Support #Fundraising #SocialGood #DoGood #Change #Help #CollarborationIs🔑

🚨 Homelessness Hidden in Plain Sight: Unpacking the Invisible Crisis 🚨 Homelessness isn't always what we think it is., it's not the person on the street corner but the unnoticed struggle of those around us. A close friend recently revealed that he had spent several months couch-surfing after losing his job, a reality he had hidden while maintaining his professional demeanor online. Here's what surprised me: Many homeless individuals hold jobs yet can't afford housing. Families with children are one of the fastest-growing homeless populations. Homelessness can often result from unexpected events like medical emergencies or family crises. We must shift our perspective and recognize that homelessness can affect anyone, even those we consider our peers or colleagues. 💡 How can we, as professionals, help make a difference? Let's start the conversation. Share your thoughts, experiences, or initiatives you've seen work. Together, we can bring this hidden crisis into the light. 🌟 Call to Action If you want to make a difference, consider donating to SAGAesc.org or volunteering with our organizations that support those experiencing homelessness. Let's work together to uncover and address homelessness hid. #Homelessness #SharingOnWheels#InvisibleStruggles #SocialImpact #ProfessionalAwareness #HumanityFirst

Did you know that over 38,000 young people aged 15–24 years presented alone to a homelessness service in 2022–23? Of these young people, almost half experienced mental ill-health, and over one-third experienced domestic and family violence. Most of these young people needed short- or long-term accommodation, and most were turned away due to a lack of capacity. These statistics only scratch the surface of issues that young people experiencing homelessness face. To have statistics like this in a country like Australia is not acceptable; together, we can have a tangible impact, and now is the time to act. #wehavetodobetter #YHMD
