We were lucky to get an early sneaky look through the new YWCA building that is almost complete on Hutt Street, Adelaide. The building has been built by Tandem Building for YWCA Australia to provide affordable rental accommodation to low income households which have previously experienced domestic or family violence. The mix of 1-3 bedroom apartments are beautifully laid out in a fantastic location. Botten Levinson Lawyers have been honoured to work with YWCA from the planning consent process, the construction contract, construction finance with HomeStart, the Deed of Covenant with the South Australian Housing Authority through to the community title documents. It is so fulfilling to see such a great project for such a superb organisation come together. Belinda Goglia has been a delight to work with.

  • Have you seen our Women’s Liveability Assessment? It's a free online audit tool that helps community housing providers, governments and other housing providers to ensure their housing meets the unique needs of their women residents. It prompts housing providers to consider how residents are supported after experiencing trauma, assisted to build skills and access employment opportunities and ensure housing meets residents’ family and caring responsibilities. According to data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, women make up the majority of social housing, including community housing, residents across Australia – so considering their needs and setting them up for success is especially important. The project was funded by Homes Victoria. You can explore the tool and undertake the assessment here: https://lnkd.in/geK4YwCy

  • Today is not a day to celebrate. It is a day to stand in solidarity with First Nations peoples and calls for Voice, Treaty and Truth. We acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land. We also acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation on the First Nations peoples of this continent, including the higher rates of housing insecurity and homelessness among First Nations peoples and in particular, First Nations women. We are dedicated to playing a positive role in delivering more housing and homelessness supports to First Nations women, deferring and referring to the expertise of First Nations women and communities.

  • Households with women as the main income earner are almost twice as likely to experience poverty as those where men are the main income earners. Poverty is a key driver of women's homelessness in Australia. To relieve pressure on women-led households, we need to address the cost of living crisis by building more housing for women, improving tenancy protections and funding women's homelessness services. • The housing crisis in Australia is gendered, with women-led households twice as likely to experience poverty, and homelessness as a result. YWCA is taking action to change this. The Hutt Street Housing Development will be YWCA’s first purpose-built housing project in South Australia and will deliver 24 apartments in the heart of Adelaide at below-market rent to women and their families. We look forward to welcoming families in early 2025. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/gYGW4qQk

  • YWCA Australia reposted this

We teamed up with YWCA Australia to purchase 30 new social homes across Townsville and the Darling Downs region! These purchases have provided a total of 22 two-bedroom, 6 three-bedroom and 2 one-bedroom homes. With a focus on older women and families, this safe, affordable, and long-term accommodation will welcome eligible Queenslanders on the social housing register. Through our QuickStarts Queensland program, we invested in a range of properties that matched local needs, including apartments, duplexes and detached houses. Our partnerships with community organisations like YWCA Australia are paving the way for improved housing supply in local communities. 📷 3-bedroom home in Deeragun, Townsville and a set of 2-bedroom unit complexes in Drayton, Darling Downs.
