The 2.1-mile-long deck of the Colne Valley Viaduct is complete, marking another major milestone for the project 😮✅! Building work on the viaduct’s deck began in May 2022. Over the following 28 months a dedicated team of highly skilled engineers used a massive launching girder to lower into place the bridge’s 1,000 uniquely shaped deck segments. The gently curved 3.4 kilometre (2.1 mile) long structure on London’s north-western edge stretches across the Colne Valley between the M25 motorway and the town of Denham. It will carry high speed trains running to and from the capital at speeds of up to 200mph. Most of the time you get an artists impression of such structures and it’s fair to say this is nearly exactly the same as vision that was presented and that I remember several years ago. A huge congratulations to the designers, engineers and the builders that made this as it was supposed to be. Would like to see it from the lake bank though to see if the skipping stone vision has been realized.
