The YMCA Louisiana Youth and Government (Y&G) program is a statewide initiative promoting civic engagement through the YMCA's philosophy of being an organization that is continuously active in exercising social responsibility. This particular program prepares high schoolers for moral and political leadership. Through Y&G, teens learn about and experience government policies first-hand and learn how they can be changemakers to improve their communities. Plus, teens form lasting friendships, benefit from mentors, and sharpen their critical thinking, public speaking and writing skills. The mission of the YMCA Youth & Government program is two-fold: To encourage and foster leadership through service, fellowship, responsibility, and respect for oneself and others among all participants, and To educate and engage students in the process of government from local to national to international so that they become more active participants in their communities. DEMOCRACY MUST BE LEARNED BY EACH GENERATION"

We include compelling historical events and analyses throughout our Human-centered leadership courses to help our learners align those events with contemporary events that affect the healthcare experience of people and communities of color. Here is an example of an event we include: The case of Simkins v. Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is a landmark legal battle that significantly advanced the cause of civil rights in the realm of healthcare. Challenging and ultimately changing the discriminatory practices of hospitals that received federal funding helped pave the way for the desegregation of healthcare facilities in the United States. The formal apology issued by Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital to the Simkins plaintiffs underscores the ongoing process of reconciliation and the importance of acknowledging and addressing past injustices to move forward. Executive Director, Certified Enneagram & Working Genius Team Training Facilitator, Professional Speaker
I love working with boards and leadership teams using The Six Types of Working Genius model. Everyone's genius gets a voice at the table, problems are solved and effective projects get moved to completion. But the best part? Meetings that won't kill you. I loved working with the Adams 14 Education Foundation board of directors. We used The Six Types of Working Genius model to help our team be more productive, communicate more efficiently, and problem-solve more effectively. Board members were blown away by the exercise tackling a current project applying our working geniuses - pictured below. One board member asked, "Can you come and do this training for my organization?" Another board member said, "I'm taking this back to my employer to revamp how we structure our meetings." Chenchen Zhang, The Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation public policy fellow for the 2023-24 term at ASU’s Morrison Institute for Public Policy in partnership with the First Place Global Leadership Institute, has completed her white paper. Titled “Exploring the Influence of Zoning Ordinances on the Development of Neuro-Inclusive Communities,” Chenchen dove into the subject with passion and precision. This visionary white paper highlights the role of zoning in the development of more autism-friendly spaces with the goal of changes in public policy for greater inclusivity for all.
